I must say that I am only parroting your instructions and I am really a fish out of water here. I did get weewx installed and working but I got to the following point and got this error. I trued it without the sudo and has a permission problemm

MacBook-Pro:weewx Kurt$ sudo ./bin/wee_extension --install weatherflow-udp-master.zip Password: Request to install 'weatherflow-udp-master.zip' Extracting from zip archive weatherflow-udp-master.zip Traceback (most recent call last): File "./bin/wee_extension", line 88, in main() File "./bin/wee_extension", line 80, in main ext.install_extension(options.install) File "/Users/Shared/weewx/bin/weecfg/extension.py", line 113, in install_extension self.tmpdir, self.logger) File "/Users/Shared/weewx/bin/weecfg/init.py", line 1773, in extract_zip with open(path, 'wb') as dest_file: FileNotFoundError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/var/tmp/__MACOSX/._weatherflow-udp-master'

Don't know what's happening, and I don't know if this will help, but try unzipping the extension file first, then installing from the resultant subdirectory:

unzip weatherflow-udp-master.zip
sudo ./bin/wee_extension --install=weatherflow-udp-master

This way, the OS will not have to use the temporary directory in /var/tmp

Thanks for the quick reply.  Ill try that

Tom

This seemed to work however the simulator seems to be still running. Is there something else I need to do?

Thanks

Kurt

Yes. You've installed the WF driver, now you have to tell WeeWX to use it:

./bin/wee_config --reconfigure

Then answer the questions.

ispybadguys commented 3 years ago

Thanks for you help in getting me this far. So I have the system running and I have a problem I don't understand. With the reconfiguration I was able to select the Tempest UDP driver. The whew webpage now updates but it still says simulator and has fake data. I assumed that perhaps this was some kind Catalina problem with permissions so I grabbed a Raspberry Pi and installed everything on that. It does the same thing as the MacBook. Here is what the syslog says:

  1. I can't make any sense of that log. It needs some newlines.

  2. On the chance that wee_config was using the wrong configuration file, specify the file path on the command line. For example, if you used the setup.py method, the configuration file will be at /home/weewx/weewx.conf. So, the command becomes

    ./bin/wee_config --reconfigure /home/weewx/weewx.conf
  3. What is the result of

    grep station_type /home/weewx/weewx.conf
ispybadguys commented 3 years ago

Sorry about that. I should not have pasted it as code. Here is a run form the command "sudo bin/weewxd ./weewx.conf"

First thing that jumps out is that the sensor_map section isn't being loaded:

Sep 13 (canary:event?ts=621717449.00)15:17:24 (canary:event?ts=621803849.00) raspberrypi /weewxd: weatherflowudp: MainThread: sensor map is {}

It is either in the wrong location in weewx.conf, or else the indents are messed up. Python is extremely picky with indents.....

Another MacOS gotcha is the udp_address setting needs to be 0.0.0.0, and not the Linux "" default:

udp_address = udp_address = 0.0.0.0 # udp_address = 255.255.255.255 This is the broadcast address that we should be listening on for packets. If the driver throws an error on start, try one of the other commented-out options (in order). This seems to be platform-specific. All three work on Debian Linux and my Raspberry Pi, but only 0.0.0.0 works on my Macbook running OS-X or MacOS. Don't ask about Windows, since I don't have a test platform to see

if it will even work.

[StdCalibrate]

[[Corrections]]
    # For each type, an arbitrary calibration expression can be given.

values must be in the units defined in the StdConvert section.

I think I am starting to understand this. I did not realize that I need to edit the script weewx/bin/user/weatherflowudp.py because the sensor_map code is commented out. I removed the lines between ''' and ''' now have: `#!/usr/bin/env python

Do you have an example of the correct indentation. I am not a Python guy.

Thanks
