Wing Commander: No mouse support or music #87

Open Redyn opened 1 year ago

Redyn commented 1 year ago

I cannot get the mouse to work with the game, even though I selected WINGCOMMANDER1 in application-specific augmentation.

I also can't get the game to play any music. I've tried the Neokobe and Redump releases of the game, no BGM with either.

Am I doing something wrong?

Can you check the date, time, and file size of WC.EXP on your CD? Mine is:

WC.EXP 743037 bytes 1992/11/24 13:33:20

Apologies for the late reply.

I just checked and the date, time and size are the same as yours for both dumps.

I assume it should play with music, then? Am I doing something wrong? I tried both opening the cue files directly with Tsugaru, and mounting them with gBurner Virtual Drive. In both cases the game plays fine, but no music.

I even made sure that the track files are properly named and consistent with their name inside the cue files.

Also note that I've tried the Ultima games, which use CD music for title screen, and it plays just fine.

If you double-clicked one of the icons for English mode, for some reason, Fujitsu failed to add "+m" command-line option in those icons. You need to press a key (I think Ctrl+M) to turn on bgm after starting the game. Quick test you can try is start in the Japanese mode and see if you have bgm. The best way I think is to install to the hard disk image (just copy files and register an icon), and make icon by yourself. Still use CD for music.

So, is the mouse working now?

Redyn commented 1 year ago

Ah, that fixed it! Thanks, I can get music now.

So it wasn't the emulator's fault. Sorry about the wrong report.

As for the mouse, sadly it's not. Whether I enable WINGCOMMANDER1 in Application or not, the mouse is completely unresponsive.

I'm using the generic Windows 10 mouse driver with a standard Genius mouse.
