Come up with better description of the project #5

Open sanathusk opened 2 years ago

The home page of capyloon project states that "Capyloon is an experimental user agent that aims to give you what you deserve: privacy and control..". 'User agent' seems to be too technical. Perhaps 'a privacy first open web platform' is much more descriptive than 'user agent' ? Created the ticket as per the matrix conservation to brainstorming ideas to come up with better description of the project.

I think we have received similar feedback from community at large. Having a simple plain English line with easy to understand phrases like 'open platform' and 'privacy first' or 'privacy preserving' would be better.

Any thoughts @fabricedesre ?

Hi! Thanks for opening a thread on that. I'm all for something clearer since clearly "user agent" mostly talks to people that spent too much time working on web browsers :)

Building on @sanathusk proposal, what about "a permission-less, privacy first open web platform" ? Or is that still too technical?

Who's the most important audience at this point? The answer to that will inform the language choice.

The most common use case is how do you explain Capyloon project to media person, journalist. Or an average lay person who may not be familiar with technical words like user agent but would easily understand common words such browser, mobile and Internet.

autonome commented 2 years ago

Then you need to explain in a way they can relate to, and their readers can relate to.

"Capyloon is a privacy-first alternative to Android and iOS, built with open web standards and technologies."

Or something like that but, but probably fix the web part to be clearer and remixed to express differentiation even more clearly.

Of course is not mobile only, and yes there's a lot more to it, but journalists need "what it is", "why it's different", "where's the drama", etc all in one shot.

Gotta put "user agent" or "permissionless" after the primary statement, and ideally in context which makes their meaning clear.

Drafting few more ideas alternatives call to action for Capyloon project page:

'Doing open web right!'

'Making open web work for you, protecting your freedoms by keeping trackers at bay.'
