This is relevant to real-time processing in electron microscopy as well (so we only stitch once, as we scan).

https://github.com/Keep-Passion/ImageStitch this seems to be a good tool for material science. Since the tool is not based on any learning algorithm we need not train. there are thousands of tools on GitHub which are open-sourced. I guess we have to test them to see their effectiveness. prioritizing academic tools with published results would have higher chances of meeting our requirements.
