Hi Saul,
Thanks for the idea. We have actually discussed this type of functionality in the past. For now, we have decided to remove the Outline view altogether in the next major release because it makes UI too complicated.
@astoilkov wait, what? not my outline view! 😱
if you remove ctrl+2
(outline) will you at least keep ctrl+g
(headings) ??
I have many documents with some 20+ headings and absolutely rely on the ability to quickly jump between the heading by hitting ctrl+2
and typing a part of the heading name. I can live with ctrl+g
as a substitute though.
@EnCey Neither of those two shortcuts work for me.... Do you mean Ctrl+Shift+G : Switch to Outline Sidebar and Ctrl+R: Go To Heading ?
Because I was referring to and I think @astoilkov was talking about the Outline Sidebar.
Possibly because I'm still on v3.4 of caret
@EnCey We won't remove the headings popup. We will only remove the outline sidebar view. We will also make it possible that you stay at version 4 in which the outline sidebar will be available.
I was recently pulling some of my files over from Write! back into regular markdown files on Caret. And I noticed that write had a pretty interesting and useful solution to outlines. For whatever currently open documents, You could see the outline of the story as a sort of Sub directory of that file. This way you didn't have to switch views from File view to Outline view.
