On Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, after install of the .deb, the shortcut can be found but launching won't bring the editor... :(

tried to manually run caret-beta from /usr/share/caret-beta, got a message stating that libgconf2.4 was missing, installed it using apt-get install libgconf-2-4... But now I only get this message: pcilib: Cannot open /sys/bus/pci/devices/0000:05:01.0/resource

You have an issue here which states you wasn't able to run it on Ubuntu 17.10 as well. Have you ever been able to successfully run Caret on any installation?

nio101 commented 6 years ago

Yes, I did on previous Ubuntu versions. sudo update-grub && reboot seemed to fix this ubuntu 18.04 problem... :)

I can confirm i have this working on 18.04 LTS Steps to reproduce:

After which point Caret both appears with a working .desktop icon. This is a reasonably fresh install so I don't believe I've installed any additional packages.

Not sure why updating grub might have solved that - but I'd suggest this ticket can be closed?

This seems to be a problem only for some users. We have complaints from other users as well. We will create a documentation article for such problems so users can easily fix them.

Closing this issue.
