802.11n 5ghz Wifi not working... #27

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Factory wipe/install.
2. Turn wifi on -- only seeing 2.4ghz networks.
3. Turning wifi on/off or airplane mode doesn't resolve.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

On stock Sense, HTC One X will connect at 5ghz Wifi...

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

Latest 8/19 build on AT&T HTC One X.

Please provide any additional information below.

I have this same problem, and also can confirm that 5Ghz works on AOKP 6.3
(Never tried CM9 or AOKP 6.4). It is possible for it to work with AOSP.

I can confirm seeing this issue with a Cisco E3000 simultaneous dual band
router. No 5ghz signals found across a variety of other router makes. 2.4ghz
b/g/n all appear as normal.

I can confirm my phone not seeing the 5ghz side of my router. Not a huge deal
but my 2.4ghz competes with my neighbors (we live in a town home, with many
2.4ghz routers could cause covering all channels) but on 5ghz I own the
airspace. Too bad people don't understand radio propagation. Great ROMtthough
and awesome dedication.

This looks like Wi-Fi driver config issue:

https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_device_htc_msm8960-common/blob/jellybean/
firmware/WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini

Changing BandCapability=1 to BandCapability=0 will make 5GHz network to appear
to the list (and it connects and works, too).

However, simply making the change may break ville (HTC One S), which supports
only 2.4GHz. I'm not sure what's the best way to proceed.

Everyone else who wants to try out: the corresponding file is at
/system/etc/firmware/wlan/prima/WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini

Change BandCapability=1 to BandCapability=0, then reboot.

EDIT: This probably affects jewel (HTC Evo 4G LTE) too, which also has 5GHz
Wi-Fi support but disabled due to this same issue.

Thanks mentwar, going to have ville test it out. If not, we will deliberate if
that config needs to be moved back to our device trees or not.

Thanks again for looking into it :)

BTW, just verified that it does not break ville. We'll be putting a patch to
merge shortly.

Great job mentwar :).
