Among them will be Debiie's mother, who swam the Channel herself when she was a girl.
这句话是一个非限定性定语从句，源于 xxx mother, who xxx 用逗号隔开。 这个who后面的从句修饰句子的结构比较松散（换句话说，从句可能修饰前面句子的任何一个词，甚至是整个句子），这时候就要非常小心的揣摩它应该修饰的到底是谁。我们可以通过时态，单复数，意义来找他修饰的是谁。
再举个例子：
He is a good teacher, which is known to all.
我们观察这个非限制性的定语从句， which修饰的是谁：
- he？ 并不是，因为which修饰不了一个人 所以意义不是，他是一个好老师，他被所有人熟知。
- teacher？同样，无法修饰一个人。所以意义不是 他是一个好老师， 老师被所有人熟知。
- 所以which修饰的是前面的整个句子。意味着，他是一个好老师这个事儿被所有人熟知。
Across the Channel
Debbi Hart is going to swim across the English Channel tomorrow.
She is going to set out from the French coast at five o'clock in the morning.
Debbie is only eleven years old and she hopes to set up a new world record.
She is a strong swimmer and many people feel that she is sure to succeed[^1][^2].
Debbie's father will set out with her in a small boat.
