Started working on a simple and clean design. Obviously super early stage, but I'll be posting updates and we can get some feedback going here.

Great, love it!

I was thinking that perhaps it would be sweet if users had the option to login straight from the homepage - what do you think? Also, would be cool if we could work on some wireframes together - would be helpful for code structure/ user flow.

jescalan commented 12 years ago

Definitely - it's in the top right corner. Perhaps a larger sign up callout would be good though. Agreed on the wireframes, we should meet up and work it out. For now I'll keep mocking - the elements are simple and quick to move around anyway : )

carlsednaoui commented 12 years ago

hahaha, I saw the button, but I mean to have a form so that they can directly login from the homepage (1 less click for current users :)

Sounds good! Btw, I love the "how many times have you..." - brilliant!

jescalan commented 12 years ago

I would say yeah, but that makes things a lot less clean - for me clicking 'sign in' to reveal a popover with a sign in form isn't that much effort, but has a huge payoff in how clean the interface looks.

Also, design update. This is shaping up!

You're absolutely right w/ regards to the pop-up.

Im loving the design thus far! With regards to sign-up button, what do you think if we add a bit more contrast (compared to background color)?

jescalan commented 12 years ago

For sure, I'll tweak that for the next version

Killing it bro, killing it!

Thinking about adding a couple more colors to our palette - these can be used separately on elements for different emphasis or made into a gradient. It's kind of a nice sunset like feel - these were picked with a formula that wraps clockwise around the color wheel from our primary and picks equidistant points.

We could also add in a nice pastel yellow for accents - something like this: accent

carlsednaoui commented 12 years ago

I like these but am not sure if there will be too much going on. I do love the idea of having the left sidebar as a moving gradient. Here are some other color options, maybe you like some of them: City Sunset, Sunset at Noon, Amazing background colors.

Btw, wanna meet up later today?

jescalan commented 12 years ago

Yeah thats what I was thinking initially, using these as a gradient for the left sidebar to start and then see where it goes from there. It is often helpful to have more than one color in the scheme though, in order to hilight certain things and differentiate between them.

Big fan of the ones you've got there as well - I'll probably merge everything together for the final gradient. Might be able to do today, I'll get back to ya.

carlsednaoui commented 12 years ago

Ok perfect, keep me posted for today.

For colors, totally agree with you regarding the color scheme - I'll also do some color palette research today to see if I find anything that pops.

Btw, loving the pace at which we are moving!

Could be cool if we use something like this for the desktop_client: http://designitcodeit.com/item/switch

Do you use a desktop email client: Yes - No

jescalan commented 12 years ago

Absolutely agreed. I can design nicer ones than that BS though - here's what resulted last time I made something like that:

http://jenius.me/thesis/sound.html

will definitely work this into a design

carlsednaoui commented 12 years ago

Hahaha love it!! (especially the sound effects lol)

jescalan commented 12 years ago

Perfect, we should absolutely use this. Great find.

carlsednaoui commented 12 years ago

Glad you like this :)
