Searching returns obsolete entries #78

These entries are otherwise hidden from the user. The editing interface does 
not label them as obsolete, which can be confusing.

This patch adds a check in the searching code so obsolete entries are ignored.

p.s. This one-liner is getting rather long, it's probably worth breaking it up!
