Manually performed the initial publish. To publish from a local machine to github:

create a github personal access token as described here
set environment variables 'GITHUB_USER' and 'GITHUB_TOKEN' for your github user and token for authentication. See the publishing\credentials block in build.gradle for reference. https://github.com/pmbb-ibi/carnival/blob/d625ce731b880702f03d1e0a5066bce5d7d83136/app/build.gradle#L42-L49
run gradle publish
