  1. Finding existing tool descriptions
  2. Refactoring the hardcoded values in the script
  3. Identifying the overall inputs and outputs
  4. Identifying dependencies between the steps
  5. Knowing what parts to skip (cleanup steps) that will be handled by the workflow engine
