CarpentryConnect 2024: converting AI for GLAM lesson to new Workbench #106

Dear AI for GLAM lesson maintainers, @davanstrien @mark-bell-tna @noramcgregor @MikeTrizna

I am at the CarpentryConnect event this week in Heidelberg. On Thursday, there is a workshop where we will collaboratively work to migrate several lessons from the old Jekyll template to the current Workbench template. Your lesson has been highlighted as an ideal candidate.

We noticed that there are no pull requests currently on your repository, and no recent activity, so I believe that we won’t break anything for you, and we will be working in a different space so that your current learners are not interrupted until you approve our developments.

Please let me know any questions you have. I hope this will be of interest and help to you.

Best wishes Phil

Good news, there is a conversion ready to view in my fork of the lesson.

There are a few steps required for you to transfer this work into your repo:

  1. Make sure to close any open pull requests on your lesson repository.
  2. Publish your current lesson to Zenodo, to create an archive of the last styles version of the site. (This is currently documented at https://carpentries-beta-handbook-preview.netlify.app/resources/curriculum/lesson-release#publishing-the-lesson-on-zenodo but that address will change when the new handbook is launched next month.)
  3. Clone my “Workbenchified” fork of your lesson.
  4. Use git remote set-url origin https://github.com/carpentries-incubator/machine-learning-librarians-archivists so that the changes can be pushed up to your GitHub repo.
  5. Follow the documented workflow from point 4.3 onwards. (This assumes that you have already taken care of points 4.1 and 4.2)

Please see the Workbench channel on Slack for discussions about the new Workbench. Please tag or email @ tobyhodges for further support.
