1. Lesson Topic

This lesson aims to teach how to troubleshoot code and ask for help by creating effective minimal reproducible examples

2. Lesson Language

English

3. Draft materials

https://github.com/kaijagahm/R-help-reprexes/tree/main

4. Requirements for existing materials

5. New repository creation

6. Transfer existing repository

7. Collaborators

@kaijagahm and @peterlaurin

8. Info/Questions

We would love to have a DOI associated with the lesson but are still not sure how to get one. Will we get one through this submission process?

Sorry for the delay, @xortizross @kaijagahm @peterlaurin. Your question about DOIs sent me off down a path, trying to figure out the best way to make a Zenodo deposit (and thereby obtain a DOI) since we started using Citation File Format in the lesson repositories.

@xortizross and @kaijagahm are now members of a maintainer team in the carpentries-incubator organisation and should be able to initiate the transfer into carpentries-incubator, via the repository Settings. When that is done, I will make sure that you retain the appropriate level of access to the repository: @kaijagahm (as the previous owner of the repo) will be given full administrative rights, and @xortizross and @peterlaurin will be given "Maintain" privileges.

I will leave this issue open until the transfer has been completed. If you have any questions about the process, or if you run into any trouble, please post back here and I will be happy to help you.

Regarding the DOI: we do not yet have a handbook page describing that process. That is an oversight, which I will fix alongside a large swath of other documentation updates soon. A short description of the process:

@tobyhodges Thanks! I just transferred the repository to the incubator (I think I've done it right--let me know if anything looks off to you).

I think @xortizross got us set up with a DOI the other day. Xochitl, chime in here if we're still confused about any of that! Toby, the instructions here are great and it seems like they should be posted somewhere, maybe in the lesson dev curriculum?

Yes, I ended up creating a project on OSF and getting a DOI that way since that's what I was familiar with! Hope that still works for you guys?

Thank you @kaijagahm.

Looks good to me.

That's fine for now, I think. Can you get DOIs for specific versions of a repository this way? If not, you might want to adopt the Zenodo approach later e.g. when you are ready for beta testing etc.

the instructions here are great and it seems like they should be posted somewhere, maybe in the lesson dev curriculum?

This will be a guide in the new Lesson Developer Handbook when launched in November. The idea is for that handbook to be an appropriate resource for lesson developers after they have completed the training, i.e. for the training to function as a kind of 'onboarding' to get community members started, and the handbook (plus the Workbench documentation) to act as a reference for them as they continue through the lesson development process.

I will close this issue now that the repository is set up and you have the appropriate access. I will still receive notifications so please post back here if you have any questions!
