An overall question would be "how much community interaction and comment on this process would you consider to be a success?"
It's great that you're being open and soliciting feedback, but do you think that you're getting feedback from everyone you want to give feedback?
It would be good to have a summary document of the feedback you received, and how The Carpentries (I guess the join steering committees for now) acted on it.
I’ve heard that the cost for partners is going up from $10,000 to $15,000 per year after the merger. I haven’t seen anything explaining the cost increase and was hoping someone could point me to a document or blog post I missed. Thanks.
@butterflyology thanks, any change to fees will be important to communicate and be transparent about. There hasn't been any discussion of fee changes. This is the current Membership structure http://www.datacarpentry.org/partnerships/. Currently Silver memberships are $7500 and Gold memberships are $15,000 for not-for-profit organizations. This has been the same since we started these memberships in 2016.
This doesn't mean there won't ever be changes in membership fees, but there hasn't been any discussion about it, and it would be something for the new Steering Committee to consider.
Thanks @npch. We are adopting/adapting this RFC model from open source, and one of the goals of this round is to see how well it works for SWC/DC/Carpentries. Good suggestion to plan on a summary document, as well as an evaluation of if we've heard from everyone we need and want to, and how we could improve that if we haven't.
Please leave comments and questions about the merger process, the use of RFCs, or other general issues here.
