Great question. @elletjies has seen this in action in her work as Regional Consultant for Southern Africa, so I'm asking that she chime in when she has a few minutes.
@bkmgit the CODATA Pretoria Summer School ran two-hybrid events both Data Carpentry. The instructors' video recorded their lessons and shared with the participants with exercises they had to work through,. There is a slack channel with helpers (I am one of them) problem solving all kinds of challenges (related to the lessons or installations etc). There were two online sessions a week where participants could ask questions about the materials. Please let me know if you would like more information or if you have any questions.
Thanks for bringing this up @bkmgit. The Workshop Administration Team is will be soon discussing the future of our workshops and this is something we will be sure to bring up.
@elletjies @sheraaronhurt Thanks. When workshops are spread over time, an asynchronous chat option is helpful. If people really like the recorded video option, maybe preparing a good recording once a year or every couple of years would be helpful. This would change it to a MOOC/Flipped classroom experience.
Thanks @bkmgit!
What are good practices for hybrid (some participants are remote) workshops?
