clarify checkout goals #1450

it would be helpful to clarify that the goal of the checkout procedures is to familiarize new instructors with each of the key ways to contribute to the Carpentries community. just a small note on the checkout instructions page would do!

Thank you Ruth! We have spent a lot of time collecting feedback on what the goals are as part of the current Checkout Project and I think this would make an excellent addition to the Checkout Instructions Page.

In addition to this, I would suggest having an easier checklist for instructors that just finished training. I have found myself scrolling through the larger instructor checkout page multiple times to find some basic things. I wonder if having a nice outline at the top of the page with links to descriptions further down would help clarify the exact expectations of instructor checkout and provide an easy overview without slogging through the details.

I notice the instructions to making contributions are not quite straight forward and so it leaves one wondering whether they are contributing the right way. If you could consider creating a direct link to contributing to an issue or creating a new issue with suggested improvements, it would not only save on time but also assure contributors that their contributions have been captured.
