I would like to clean up the (very stale) branches in the git-novice lesson so we can use branches for community development of a supplemental episode, and in the future for lesson development, such as if the curriculum advisory committee indicates that the story should be changed (a years-long ongoing conversation on the git-novice lesson).
Since a lot of lessons also have this issue, I'd appreciate comments and feedback from the maintainer community.

Branch cleanup
At some point the organization used branches as versioning of this lesson. Versioning now occurs through published releases. It is also published through Zenodo. Deleted branches can be recovered, but only if the branch name is known. For the sake of recoverability, here are the deleted branch names with pointers to their last commit.
