Goal 1 is to Build regional and local capacity to empower sustainable communities. One of the objectives under goal 1 is:

Develop a plan to work with local and regional communities to ensure they are supported appropriately by Regional Coordinators, Trainers, and other community roles that work in a location-specific manner.

Piloting a Regional Plan for South Africa will aim to:

[x] Establish and maintain communication platforms for the African Carpentries Community
[x] Design and carry out a strategy for attracting new paying institutional members
[x] Revise workflows for coordination of workshops and instructor training events
[x] Plan for instructor recruitment and training
[x] Create a plan to achieve financial stability in the region
[x] Address issues of equity, inclusion and access appropriate to the region
[x] Host skill-up events during African Carpentries Monthly Meetups (instead of Host an African Community Virtual Meetup for 2020)

The pilot will run from Q1 to Q4 2020.
