Executive Council Standing Committees

Goal 3 is to Provide opportunities for growth and professional development of our volunteers and Core Team. One of the objectives under goal 3 is:

• Solidify current committee leadership roles, responsibilities, and governing documents

In January 2021, the Carpentries Executive Director proposed a "Standing Committee" structure as a practical way to manage the work and engagement of the Executive Council. Serving on a committee will provide Executive Council members the opportunity to bring their subject matter expertise to specific governance and operational priorities, deal with issues and projects more effectively and efficiently, and maximize time and resources between meetings.

The proposed committees include:

• Officers Committee
• Governance Committee
• Finance Committee
• Communications Committee
• Program Committee

The Executive Council is currently piloting the standing committee structure for the 2021 term.

The EC standing committee structure was added to the handbook on May 26, 2021. On 2021-12-21 the EC voted to transition from monthly to quarterly meetings, using Standing Committees as a way to work on EC tasks between meetings. This issue is now complete.
