@kariljordan Let me know if this needs additional context
I updated the opening comment with a little more context. Thank you!
GOAL 2 of the strategic plan reads: Intentionally incorporate equity, inclusion, and accessibility to support a diverse community. One of the objectives in this goal is: Develop a program for supporting community growth and training in under-resourced institutions and communities and in new geographical regions.
@acrall @ErinBecker what are your thoughts on whether the CDP aligns with that particular objective?
The glossary of terms has been developed and reviewed by members of the Core Team. It was also brought to the community at the Community Development Program Q2 meeting for review and discussion. We are now working to identify where the glossary should live on GitHub, considering the website redesign. Once a location has been identified, we will be adding it to the website and sharing broadly. The subcommunity registration is being built into the website redesign and will be available when the new website is rolled out. A form has been generated for collecting the data to populate the registry. Four community discussion sessions were held to get feedback from the community on the Toolkit of IDEAS. A form was also created to allow members of the community who were unable to attend one of these sessions. Tara Robertson, who was contracted to do the work, is taking this feedback to incorporate into the toolkit. Two sessions will be held at CarpentryCon to present a first draft of the toolkit for further community input.
@kariljordan, in response to your question above, I do think the CDP aligns with that particular objective. Details are still being discussed but this also overlaps with the IUSE and data sovereignty module development discussions
The Carpentries Toolkit of IDEAS was published 1 September 2022.
The Toolkit of IDEAS (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility Strategies) is a practical resource for Carpentries’ Instructors, helpers, and workshop hosts. This resources bridges the gap between inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility and teaching foundational coding and data science skills.
My hope is that our community members will continue to update and extend this resource over time. In 2023, the Toolkit of IDEAS will become part of The Carpentries Instructor onboarding. Until then, I want you to read it, share it, use it, and share your thoughts with us.
The community glossary has been published. The subcommunity registry will roll out with the new website at the end of this quarter. A form will be developed next week that will collect data from community coordinators for the registry
So exciting! Here's an alternative link to the glossary.
A form has been created for community coordinators to register their subcommunity. Details are available in this blog post
I have set up a meeting with @maneesha later this week to post the registry to our existing website. The progress on this was delayed with the updates to our community programming and scaling up of our welcome sessions this past month. Will link to registry here once posted
The subcommunity registry has been launched. A Community Development Team Q4 project is developing an implementation plan to standardise our community development work across all teams and volunteer roles as part of the CDP
An implementation plan for the CDP has been developed and mapped out in Asana for 2024.
All community role documentation has been finalized and passed off to the Technology Team. The following community roles will have badges in AMY:
Community Development Program: @OscarSiba led the first and @kariljordan led the second sessions of the Q2 CDP Calls. We had representation from UK, DACH, Australia, USA, and Africa! @tobyhodges and @ErinBecker presented on our Collaborative Lesson Development Training.

Goal 1 is to Build regional and local capacity to empower sustainable communities. One of the objectives under goal 1 is:
The Community Development Program was developed in Q4 2021 and launched in Q1 2022 to replace the Community Facilitators, Regional Coordinator, and Community Champions programs. See two relevant blog posts: Announcing The Carpentries Community Development Program and Building and Sustaining Carpentries Subcommunities. Progress on this new program will be updated here quarterly as it relates to the following tasks:
