@sdopoku thanks for your interest in regional hosting, check out the details here please. We'd love to see you sign up. Best
Hi @sdopoku, the organising committee reviewed this session proposal and had this to say:
The session lead focuses on improving teaching quality using low-tech strategy that could be readily applied in low-resource workshops and locations and will be a great addition to some discussions already happening in the community. The abstract assumes that people would have watched their talk (linked in the abstract). To provide modularity to this session, we urge the author to add a summary from their linked talk in the abstract.
We are really excited for your session, and more details i.e. around scheduling will be shared with you in the coming days. Let me know if I can answer any questions or clarify anything for the time being.
@ousodaniel thanks for the link to the regional hosting signup document. I just signed up and look forward to it.
@serahrono I've made the suggested updates which I agree make the abstract much better. Thank you for pointing this out. I don't have any questions for now. Please take a look at let me know if there's anything else I can improve.
thanks @sdopoku, this looks great to me!
Title of the session: Embedding Accessible Low-Tech Strategies Into Your Data Literacy Approach
Session details
Session type: Skill-up
Keywords: data literacy, low-tech, low-income, design
Permission to record this session: Yes
Abstract
This session is a follow up to my recent talk Low-Income Data Diaries - How “Low-Tech” Data Experiences Can Inspire Accessible Data Skills and Tool Design at csv,conf,v5. In that csv, conf talk, I made the case that a significant population of data stakeholders exist in low-technical skills and low-technological infrastructure context, and find current data literacy approaches (Data Literacy 1.0) inaccessible. The main takeaway from the csv, conf talk was the need to rethink and redesign a new approach (Data Literacy 2.0) that makes data skills and resources more accessible to these stakeholders. Whereas the prior talk set the stage for the current challenge, this session will dive into strategies and resources that I have discovered and develop to get started with embedding low-tech skills and resources into our data literacy approaches.
