`pip` compatible? #1968

Closed DanielRivasMD closed 1 month ago

DanielRivasMD commented 1 month ago

Hi there,

I've been trying to set up a job that runs pip, but it seems to trigger some other command and I end up with an error occurring. I was wondering whether just is compatible with pip or if there is a known underlying process going on.

Much appreciated.

laniakea64 commented 1 month ago

What version of just? What "other command" is run instead of the wanted pip command? Could you please post an example justfile where this problem is reproduced?

melMass commented 1 month ago

Yes. As laniak stated it's probably just the wrong pip that gets executed, you can use which pip as part of your recipe to know which is being invoked. If you use python you should probably use a virtual env and this tip from the doc can help you with this setup

DanielRivasMD commented 1 month ago

Thanks for the feedback. I am running version just 1.25.2 & the result of which pip goes to the path managed by homebrew, i.e., /opt/homebrew/bin/pip. After activating the local python enviroment, the path goes to the local pip. Either version triggers the error message below:

The following shows that it tries to run python code from the shell.

Usage: import [options ...] [ file ]

Image Settings:

PATH_TO_PIP: line 5: from: command not found
PATH_TO_PIP: line 7: syntax error near unexpected token `('

Attach the relevant parts of the justfile but I think I know what you are trying to do and you could use shebang for that (i.e write recipes in python)

ahhh! that works. Thanks a lot. I had tried using #!/bin/bash before, which did not work. I am closing the issue.
