Figure 2.7. maybe also rotate that first child node so the kangaroo goes to the top and whale goes to the bottom. Circular tree is a bit small relative to the rest.
The icons in the trees (e.g. Fig 2.5) are noticeably squashed vertically (=stretched horizontally). Attached image shows proportions of original silhouette in gray and rendered image in black, scaled to same width.

As part of the section on abstraction, it might be worth mentioning that parent nodes are rarely the immediate parents like they are in a genealogy. They are some ancestral lineage in common to the two child nodes, and could be thousands or millions of years removed.
