This is uninstallable malware from hell #72

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Have the software installed without your permission by a POS app like say 
iShowu HD Pro
2. Have this awful software constantly render your brand new MacBook Pro mute
3. Try to find the app so you can drag it to the trash. Does not exist.
4. Google the problem and notice all the other people who can't get it 
uninstalled.

5. Notice some people suggesting you download the app and run the uninstall 
script.
6. Do so (see 5)
7. Have this uninstall script not work.
8. Try to go to the Google Code page and email the author,
9. Find this is impossible.
10. Try to find some page to report this malware to Google and get the account 
suspended.
11. Impossible, since Google blows donkey balls and customer support.
12. File an "issue" on the project code page.
13. Realize full well nothing will happen.
14. go about the rest of your weekend and accept in bitter resignation that 
malware has crippled 
your new mac.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

I expected to be able to easily uninstall sounflower so my Mac's sound will 
stop shutting off, 
perhaps by dragging the app to the trash or clicking uninstall somewhere in the 
Mac;s useless 
Sound Pref pane. Instead, I can't.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

1. HOW WOULD I KNOW. 2. 10.6.3

Please provide any additional information below.

Would it kill you people to put your email address or real name somewhere? Oh 
right, malware

This software works perfectly awesome for me. However, before you claim the 
software to be malware because 
of it muting your mac, this is half of the purpose of this application, to 
create virtual sound devices to, for 
instance, record the sound that is playing on your computer, etc...

Before you claim this software to be malware, please move into the sound 
preferences, and make sure that 
Soundflower (2ch) or Soundflower (16ch) is not highlighted under "Sound in" and 
Sound out" in your 
preferences pane. If this is the case, all sound will be transmitted to 
Soundflower, instead of your speakers, 
headphones etc. Highlighting the topmost entry in both "Sound in" and "Sound 
out" should work in most 
cases, as shown in the pictures below. (note, the pictures are in Danish, and i 
didn't bother to change language 
just to show you something as obvious)

If this happens to not solve your problems, then i am sorry that i will not be 
able to help you.

And, according to your complains, that they do not leave any contact 
information, please take your time and 
research next time, and you will discover that Soundflower is a product by the 
company "Cycling 74", and they 
do have contact information on their website (http://cycling74.com/company/ and 
http://cycling74.com/support/)

Ryan,

Sounds like your one real complaint is that iShowu HD Pro installed Soundflower 
without your permission. This is certainly a valid complaint -- no application 
should ever install a kernel extension without your permission -- but it's a 
complaint about iShowu HD Pro, not about Soundflower. If you haven't already, 
you should probably contact the iShowu folks at support@shinywhitebox.com. They 
are, as far as I can tell, unrelated to Cycling '74.

I run IShowUHD pro. It does ask if you want Soundflower installed. You need to 
read the messages while installing, and not rush through the process.

You don't use Mac's preference pane to uninstall software. Either dragging the 
app into the trash, or looking for an "uninstall" file within the Applications 
folder, will remove them. Always restart afterward.

The problem the original commenter has here, is not the programs, but the need 
to learn how things are done on a Mac. It's NOT Windows man!

Thanks Anders. I knew I had had this problem before but couldn't remember how I 
fixed it. Followed your instructions and problem solved.
