Cluster of gas sacs items seems to have no use. Either give a use or remove the item from the game. #5498

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

As the title says the cluster of gas sacks item harvested from (most but not all for some reason) flying giant insects appear to have no use. When you butcher an insect they wind up just one more thing for the game to keep track of until you burn them or something (I don't even think they rot). You can't eat them, you can't make anything from them, they just sit there existing. They appear to be a hold over from main branch DDA deciding to add pointless "realism" explaining why the insects can fly despite their size while adding nothing to game play.

Describe the solution you'd like

Possibly the simplest solution would be to just remove them from the butchering results of the giant bee, firefly, giant dragonfly, mega dragonfly, wasp larva, wasp pupa, wasp, wasp queen, giant wasp, giant wasp guard, and giant wasp queen (these are the only monsters that give clusters of gas sacks on butchering according to the Bright Nights version of the Hitchhikers Guide to the Cataclysm).

On the other hand I have a few ideas on what can be done to give them an actual use but lack the coding skills to code these ideas myself. If any of these are adopted clusters of gas sacks should probably be added to giant flies and any other flying giant insects not listed above as giving them when butchered.

The first and simplest idea is to just add clusters of gas sacks to the list of possibilities to make insect mutagen (but how many should it take?). They do come from mutant insects after all.

They could be an ingredient that could be processed into hydrogen to make hydrogen tanks or even canisters. Logically this would also mean that killing these insects with fire would be dangerous and probably result in a small fiery explosion making monsters that drop these a bit more dangerous.

They could be processed into some sort of incendiary bomb, See above re: killing these monsters with fire.

They could be processed into some sort of noxious gas bomb. Again this would logically mean that wounding or killing monsters dropping these would release noxious gasses making them more dangerous to fight..

They could even be useful for insect mutagen and one or more of the other options.

The one thing clusters of gas sacks shouldn't do if they remain in the game is absolutely nothing. They should be good for more things than war is.

I do want to add more uses to hydrogen now that I've actually started on it, but for now CBMs are a start.

Did not realize that included processing clusters of gas sacks. Not familiar enough with that mod.

It had it for a fair while yeah (presumably not long after I noticed hydrogen sacs were a thing for the DDA version, and when shortly after Zlor's bug overhauls for the BN version), so now that's since been mainlined into BN itself.

I'll leave this open but we gave it some uses. We should give them more.

More coming when I can get time and energy to fuck with them :>
