Perf dashboard gets around this by having the deploy and localserver tests create a temp directory and copy everything into place. It's not amazing, but at least it prevents checked-in copying and symlinks (we removed symlinks after some very painful confusion caused by them). @dave-2, @qyearsley would probably help you modify those scripts for your use case. Or if you can think of a cleaner way to do this we'd all love to help.
