What steps will reproduce the problem?

The prerequisite for the build process and test automation is that a current, 
properly configuration kernel be present on the protoboard. 

Instead of defining this as a pre-condition, the first step of the automation 
shold load a specific kernel on to the proto board eeprom.

If the protoboard and spinneret have a valid 5.3 or later (any 5.0 release with 
230400 as the default baud) the test process will initialize properly and no 
manual presteps are necessary.

Otherwise, a valid kernel ( as above) must be installed on both.
