Hey All,

Had the JJC go through the site and write down their opinions. Here's the notes (+=another person said the same thing)

What do you like about the site? • The warning sign + • “Expunge.io for IL” • Facebook/Twitter share buttons + • The address where to get the RAP sheet • The first page • Explains Class A, B, & C misdemeanor • Stats on arrests and expungement requests (Sharlyn has updated stats) + • Links in the “About” section • Numbers to call • Alternative resources if not eligible + • “Every year, thousands of youth in IL are arrested before they turn 18. Were you one of them?” • Legal Aid button

What changes would you like to see made? • More interactive features (will get more info about this) • Banner design • Edit the About page (will have students edit) • Color + • The icons on first page ++ • Definitions for delinquent and supervision (will have students do this) + • First page is over crowded • Answer to FAQ question “After you petition juvenile” • More stats about how many arrests per year there are • There should be a stats page before we lead them into the expungement process

What would you like to see added to the site? • More/Better graphics • What made the JJC create the app (our purpose) • Better font • Photos • Videos of students explaining and talking + • More questions in the FAQ section • Different background (powerful image) • Translate into Spanish +++ • Realistic times and days the RAP sheet office is open • More clarity, less words

What websites do you like (color)? • Teensphere app (moving buttons) • Twitter color scheme • Bing color scheme

Thanks Chris! I'm so excited that you're getting the hang of github :D This is great feedback, but most of it is too ambiguous to implement - it'd be great to get concise, actionable feedback! My notes are in italics

What changes would you like to see made? • More interactive features (will get more info about this) reluctant, b/c I don't have experience coding interactive features & I think it would be good to keep the app lightweight in terms of load time • Banner design specific changes? • Edit the About page (will have students edit) ok, will wait for feedback • Color + if the students can all agree on one example color scheme (like an example website/app) I can make the changes • The icons on first page ++ what icons? the car & the warning sign? remove or change? • Definitions for delinquent and supervision (will have students do this) + ok, will wait for feedback • First page is over crowded I think so too - I'm trying to keep it as concise as possible but I'm struggling to figure out what info to cut! thoughts? • Answer to FAQ question “After you petition juvenile” what should it be changed to? • More stats about how many arrests per year there are add where? don't want to add this to the home page b/c I want to keep it short • There should be a stats page before we lead them into the expungement process I'm not sure I understand what this means

What would you like to see added to the site? • More/Better graphics examples? • What made the JJC create the app (our purpose) this can go on the about page. let me know how I can reword • Better font pick from here: https://www.google.com/fonts • Photos such as?
• Videos of students explaining and talking + reluctant to add videos b/c I think it would be good to keep the app lightweight... • More questions in the FAQ section such as? • Different background (powerful image) such as? • Translate into Spanish +++ someone in the open gov community is working on this!!! :D :D :D • Realistic times and days the RAP sheet office is open ? • More clarity, less words specific changes?

Also, regarding feedback, we should work on prioritizing necessary or high-impact changes first, b/c I have limited time over the next few weeks. I definitely think the most important thing to tackle first would be improving the landing page - how to make it less cluttered, how to make it more compelling, how to change the language. Also stuff like font/color, which affect the overall look and feel.

@cathydeng Thanks! Trying to get more tech savvy. Thank you for the feedback (I agree), I will forward this to the youth and prioritize their responses.

Hey Chris,

Just wanted to give my input about some expunge.io changes:

What changes would you like to see made?

• Banner design - Make it more defined. Maybe by centering "expunge.io" and making it larger

• Color + Just my suggestion, I was thinking the color scheme of http://www.takepart.com/ may fit. Would still have the aqua green/teal and black but just not as heavy. Like instead of the whole page being one color and the banner being another, some elements can have designated colors. On takepart's website, distinct parts are the bullet points, the links (to articles, the "submit" button), etc.

• The icons on first page ++ Personally I like the addition of images and think that may help make the app more engaging throughout. As for the ones on the first page, I think if they were changed to ones that were a bit less animated/cartoon-ish (more-so the cop-car one) they would fit nicer. It's king of hard to explain and achieve, but I think including images that are both professional and appealing to youth might be powerful for the webapp especially for the first page.I'll keep an eye out for some.

• First page is over crowded As I read though it, I feel like there could be a separation between "..process called juvenile expungement." and "Juvenile expungement can. .. " that might achieve this. This makes me wonder if we need to have all the basic information on there to keep the person on the page and get the basic info even if they don't look through the rest. I think if some of the info on the first page is kind more direct, that can be to the point and still have all necessary info. For example: "Were you one of the thousands of youth arrested in IL before turning 18? If so, you have a juvenile record even if nothing happened. The Bad News? You have a record that doesn't just disappear. The good news: you can better your chances for work, school, and housing by expunging your record!" and so on. My thoughts, at least.

• Answer to FAQ question “After you petition juvenile” what should it be changed to? • More stats about how many arrests per year there are add where? don't want to add this to the home page b/c I want to keep it short • There should be a stats page before we lead them into the expungement process I'm not sure I understand what this means What would you like to see added to the site? • More/Better graphics/photos Same as first page icon thoughts- Having more images throughout app, even if small, can keep people engaged and brighten up page.

• What made the JJC create the app (our purpose) this can go on the about page. let me know how I can reword • Better font pick from here: Architects Daughter for headings and Archivo Narrow, Gabriela or Didact Gothic for the rest?
Also, I like that there is size variation but visually, again, for me at least, the sizes are too different. For example, on the FAQ page, the questions are big but then the answers are so small, vice versa.

• Just a comment for the FAQ page, if near the info about the RAP sheet you could add an asterisk and in different color write that attaining that info is an important step, that would be helpful. And I think in general that would be helpful for people and for our efforts- to put some things in different color and as a side note. For me, I'm crazy about color-coordination and ordering notes so ideas/thoughts don't get lost within writing.

• Translate into Spanish +++ someone in the open gov community is working on this!!! :D :D :D That's so awesome.

• Realistic times and days the RAP sheet office is open ? • More clarity, less words specific changes? I think this is similar to what I mentioned about the first page and it being overcrowded.

And thank you for your continuous patience and work, Cathy!

Closing this - we need to keep enhancements to tangible action items so that we can stay organized & prioritize
