I think this could really help the less file live longer without patches. I recently looked at the new release for the community home, and the RN team does really well sticking to their Custom CSS-friendly design choices.

in progress... just haven't pushed the changes. It substantially improves the plugin's compatibility with other plugins and future releases because plugin devs and developers can use the variables in their styles.
