@cookiemonsteruk Hi, no problem. I tried to make an extension for XN as a Proof of concept. At the moment I don't use XigmaNAS + bhyve and it seems that the community is not interested in it. However, I will try to help if there are any questions. Resources are of course very limited, so I am mainly focused on vanilla FreeBSD.
However, I am interested in using XN to implement the scheme described here: https://github.com/cbsd/xigmajail/issues/2#issuecomment-2179256111
thanks for the reply Ole. I did see that there didn't seem to be much interest. I don't know why that is and my guess is that CBSD hasn't had the same publicity as Bastille, iocage and the rest so people aren't aware of what it is and how powerful and active it is. Thanks for the link, looks interesting. I'll sure be back with questions that hopefully we can take to the XN forum and give CBSD and your advice visibility. I hope I can rebuild the server in the next week or two and then I'll be deciding what to do with my jails. Whether to migrate to CBSD or leave with Bastille. Then there might be a need to build and manage VMs and for that I definitively would prefer CBSD to VirtualBox. Take care.
I've installed the extension today @olevole . My use is to create and manage Jails, not VMs -for now-.
Created a separate vdev, pool and dataset for cbsd. Installed the extension and gave that dataset as working directory.
Then proceeded to launch the sudo cbsd jconstruct-tui
but unfortunately it loops in the dialog from 60%, had to figure out any key press to advance it to 100% and then loops back again to 60%. I was unable to create a jail. Wondering if you have advice.
I've now seen that you have created a separate extension for jails in XN. I'll close and switch to that on the github side,.
Hi @olevole . It seems there were few interested in the extension for XN and now XN is on a newer version. I had to power down my servers but I am in the process or comissioning a new one for storage with XN. New hardware. I will then be able to test your extension both for freeBSD jails and Virtual Machines. I am mostly interested in VMs because I can start with bastille jails straight away and migrate to cbsd over time. Will you be able to assist when the time comes with the VMs setup in XN ? Sorry to use the issue tracker for this but there was no other way I could think of.
