Email gadget no longer updates

Which gadget does this problem concern?

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Add the gadget to the sidebar
2. Gadget shows email from January 23 (today is March 19)

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect the gadget to update itself as new email comes in. Instead it
shows a static view of mail from two months ago. This gadget did work
properly at one time, but became wedged.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Google Desktop 5.7.0802.22438-en-pb
Windows XP SP2

Which version of Google Desktop are you running and which language version
of Google Desktop is installed? (You can find the version by clicking the
downward arrow on top of your sidebar and clicking About...)
