Per Comms request, let's provide, via ptaxsim, TY 2022 aggregate stats (N PINs, median taxable value, total taxable value) per municipality, per major property class.
Taxable value is taxable EAV for most properties (taking into account homestead exemptions), except for farmland. @dfsnow confirms that the tax_bill function should output taxable value, such that it handles the effects of the PIN's class and homestead exemptions on taxable value for us.
Long format (i.e., 1 row per Geography x major class) would be great, such that the final data file might look like this:
agency_name
agency_num
major_class
N_PINs
EAV_median
EAV_total
Village of xyz
012345678
1
1,013
$1,000
$15,200
Village of xyz
012345678
2
20,510
$6,000
$120,000,000
Use case
This is via Comms for a press request, but will be good to have on hand for our Policy team too.
Universe
Geographies:
Let's define our geographies by getting agency_numfrom agency_info, where major_type= Municipality/Township and minor_type = muni.
(The original request is for Evanston, Skokie, Wilmette, Schaumburg, and Oak Park, but I think it will be good to have these on hand for all munis.)
PIN is unique to taxcode. Each agency can be associated with multiple taxcodes, so this aggregation will often occur over multiple taxcodes per agency.
