If differences between variants are genealogically insignificant, the editors may decide to merge the attestations of these variants. E.g. at Mk 4:37/18 there is no genealogically significant difference between variants a and b. Thus a right-click on “a” in the local stemma should open a dialogue “Merge”. A click on “Merge” should lead to ”Click on the variant whose attestation you want to merge with the attestation of a”. A click on “b” then should alter the apparatus so that “a!” precedes a and b. In the local stemma “a” and “b” should be replaced with “a!” and the attestations of a and b should be merged on the database and in the coherence diagrams.
