i tried with wine 1.3 and 1.2 and tried with the version that comes with both,
and i also tried the version hosted here and others, they all fail at the same
part. Would my interent connection have anything to do with it?

What does 'sh winetricks --version' or 'winetricks --version' output?

What do
 ls -l /home/scott/.cache/winetricks/dotnet20/l_intl.nls
 sha1sum /home/scott/.cache/winetricks/dotnet20/l_intl.nls
output?

Your internet connection might have something to do with it, especially
if you're behind a strange proxy. I'll attach a zipped copy of that file,
try unzipping it and dropping it in.

those commands

If the proxy doesn't like how I download that raw file,
maybe it would be happier if I zip it. Is the problem
restricted to that one file?

ok, the file you sent me worked, i did the commands you asked me to then
downloaded the file you attached, extracted it to the right place and it
appeared to have fixed the problem. Thank you for your one on one help :-)

ok, i deleted my .wine directory, then started the "winetricks dotnet20" again
(which was ok with me since i didn't have anything installed there yet) and it
worked
