Ubuntu ships with *.desktop file that is installed to WMs.

* Please include this file to the tarball / version control sources.
* Add file to explain who owns the copyright and under which license it is 
released.

Those are Ubuntu specific, Scott created them. If he wants to submit them for 
inclusion upstream, it's up to him.
