Significance of gene_info/rename #10

I would like to keep my annotations for my genes. If I know that all the gene annotations will match across tools, do I have to rename my fusions according to NCBI gene_info file? I see that there is a "hidden" option to turn off the renaming function, and from a look at the code, that file isn't used for anything beyond updating the gene name to NCBI nomenclature.

Would it be detrimental to the algorithm to turn off the renaming feature?

I actually managed to change the gene_info file to return the version of the symbols we are interested. This is closed
