Passive Pets Being Injured Trigger Combat #1358

I'm not sure what their source is, or if it was changed later on, or if it's correct in the first place, but it doesn't work the way it does in this video right now. It seems plausible enough to me, especially considering how pets didn't vanish upon mounting before.

http://wowwiki.wikia.com/wiki/1.6.0 "Pets will now enter passive/follow mode when their masters mount."

It's sort of impossible to Feign Death and escape combat at the moment if anything is attacking your pet, whether you command it to follow or not.

Lets imagine you stopped to herb a dreamfoil, and suddenly you get attacked by a mob. You can send your pet on mob to gain aggro, get herb, put pet on passive and throw a Feign Death. Since your pet is on passive, you will leave combat mode, allowing you to mount up, and as soon as you do that, your pet will dissapear, making mob return to its original spot (evade run), while you can keep going wherever you were going.
