AOE spells have no effect while moving #2465

Open Evolvee opened 8 years ago

Evolvee commented 8 years ago

Basicly, if you move and cast aoe instant spell(moving + jumping is ever worse)(physic scream), you must be almost on the same spot as a target or you wont have a chance to fear him. If you are both moving its even worse.

I think this guy might be onto something: http://www.arenajunkies.com/topic/152591-jumping/page__st__40#entry2321065

Could be something similar to the melee leeway. Probably possible to check on retail.

Evolvee commented 8 years ago

the problem now is that you have absolutely no chance to fear someone if ur not standing right on him(when jumping+moving) i remember that on retail before wotlk release when u jumped with mount and feared u had extremely big range, even bigger than the range when u stayed(atleast from my point of view)--> i played spm and always feared the druid(vs WD) this way before warrior intercepted me.

for example.. imagine this: u stay under the pillar on blade edge arena and druid stays on top of it(on its corner and casting on warrior who is facerolling you), you could jump and fear him with 100% success, but this is not possible here at all.

that last clip is like 2 yards range from target and i even casted it in the end of flight

Klimpb commented 8 years ago

Definitely still very much possible.

Schaka commented 8 years ago

It's definitely off. I can't say what specifically, but I never jumped for fear because I've had issues with that on retail back in the day. I still often don't hit targets very much near me on here.

2.3.0 patch notes : Players no longer gain the moving AOE radius bonus if they are jumping.

Evolvee commented 8 years ago

even if there wouldnt be any bonus, i cant fear druid who is runing from me from 2 yards http://www.ownedcore.com/forums/world-of-warcraft/world-of-warcraft-exploits/237576-extend-range-of-aoe-spells-including-fears.html

Schaka commented 8 years ago

They don't gain the 2 yards bonus, but you still gain the one where the server considers you in 2 positions at the same time.

Schaka commented 8 years ago

That would be a bug. Like currently there's a second LoS check, there seems to be a second range check when fear debuff is applied. Which would explain why it's so fucked up. The second you cast something (finish casting), there should be a single check when the spell is done. If it validates, it gets added to the queue and later applied. It's definitely wrong behavior that an aura of a cast that finished almost half a second (400ms at maximum) ago would have a second LoS check by the time the queue is being executed.

If that's the case, it explains fear range.

Jumpka commented 8 years ago

@Schaka I'm pretty sure there's no double AoE range check on CC. We've done some tests with AoEs, ranges and spelldelay (quite some time ago, maybe it's not true anymore) and I remember that you could blink after someone has used a fear near you and you would still get feared after spell delay (when you were already 15+ yards away from the priest/warlock)

Maybe it's all about the desynch issue that happens here (that everyone stopped caring about after the +2yd fix, even tho it's clearly something wrong here, cause there's no reason for a server with no pop / low latency to sometimes behave worse than retail)

Schaka commented 8 years ago

@Jumpka quite possible there are still issues with incorrect player position synchronisation. I've definitely seen people run around with sprinting animation, almost teleporting because they weren't really moving as fast as my client was made to believe (probably by wrong movement flags).

On the other hand, with blinking away and fear still hitting you, I think that could be related to your position not updating quickly enough after you blinked. If you have the means available to test this, try the following:

If you get hit with fear, ever, something is clearly broken. If you THEN try the same thing with the priest fearing first and moving right after blink also get hit by fear, that is probably no second range check.

Although I guess @ccshiro could just double check.

Jumpka commented 8 years ago

@Schaka You could test it easily with untalented howl of terror, right?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fv_CJDCmGO8 11:28 this is impossible to do on CC atm

Jumpka commented 8 years ago

@Evolvee 9:51 ?

DarkenRal commented 8 years ago

if you mean 10:12 and not 9:51 - then he's press fear in melee range and fear affects dru also when he's in melee range. and on 11:28 he's in melee range too.
