spinoff the I/O module ? #1

I've stumbled upon Jasmin-CIS. I'm not particulary interested in the model-comparison aspect of it, but all the modules for reading spatial remote sensing observations are really nice. Would there be an interest to spin those off in their own package?

Hi,

Part of the concept of CIS is to have pluggable data products (package jasmin_cis.data_io.products). Although these are maintained in the one repository at this point there is no reason why they couldn't be split into a separate repo -- or other repos could maintain new versions of these products. Can you to go into more details on which parts of CIS you think should be distinct? We would welcome a pull request if you have something tangible.

Bear in mind that CIS is the Community Inter-comparrison Suite so the focus of our development is inter-comparrison between EO and models. Therefore our development is likely to concentrate on the two together for the moment.

I appreciate this is a very old issue now, but if you're still interested it should be very easy to use the latest version of CIS to read in remote sensing datasets through the Python interface.
