What happens during a re-scan of a (large) collection? #165

Imagine we change the collection description for CMIP6.

What happens when you are re-scanning CMIP6 from v1 to v2 (of the collection description)?

  1. Delete v1 and allow CMIP6 to disappear for 1 week (of rescanning)
  2. Keep v1 and scan v2 into a new area - and then swap v2 in and delete v1 - when scanning completes.
  3. Just tell it to rescan - and everything in the catalogue is a mess because records are orphaned.
