For updates to existing add-ons, please attach the id to the add-on and only include updated fields from the template. For removal of add-ons, please attach the id too.

The id is part of the link to the add-on: For example, this addon below has an id of A4577B17-4C60-0C1E-CAB5-92A604FF0EC3 https://celestia.mobi/resources/item?item=A4577B17-4C60-0C1E-CAB5-92A604FF0EC3

Check before uploading an add-on

Your add-on will be running on Android/iOS/macOS/Windows, to enable maximum compatibility, please ensure that

  1. files names referenced in models, ssc, dsc files, etc are exactly the same as the actual file names (some file systems are case sensitive. For example if in your .ssc there is Mesh "Progress.cmod", then the file name should be exactly Progress.cmod not progress.cmod).
  2. Textures should have width/height of power of 2 (for example: 1024 512, a texture of 1000 500 will not work on many mobile devices).
  3. If your add-on requires specific Celestia versions, please mention in the description. Please also ensure that your add-on should not crash running on other versions.
  4. If you are updating an existing add-on, note that existing users will not see an update button, so it might be a good idea to include version history in the description.
  5. Please try to use smaller files for image/thumbnail/other metadata. For example, use JPG if alpha value is not needed.

DaveBowman2001 commented 2 years ago

Title: Sputnik 2 Description: Sputnik 2 was the second spacecraft ever sent into orbit, and the first one to carry a living animal in space, a dog named Laika, on 1957-Nov-3. However, the spacecraft was not designed to return to Earth, and Laika tragically died on the satellite's fourth orbit. The satellite continued its operations until the batteries depleted on 1957-Nov-10, before reentering the atmosphere on April 1958 Proposed category: Spacecraft (1951 ~ 2000) Demo Object Name: Sputnik 2 Author(s): linuxman Release date: 2008-Aug-21 Link to download: Sputnik 2.zip Image: Untitled Additional metadata: Untitled Launch on an R-7 rocket, 1957-Nov-3

@DaveBowman2001 I would like to suggest you, to create a smaller version of the ISS addon. The current one is very good, but due to the huge amount of textures it has strong crashes. On my smartphone, I had to delete all the normal map textures from the ISS addon so it wouldn't crash and close Celestia. But for even weaker devices, it will appear that you could limit around just 20 MB of textures in the entire addon. Crashing problems do not usually occur because of the 3D models, but because of the textures. If you do, keep the old addon, and this new reduced version as an alternate addon.

ADDON UPDATES: Lunar Orbiter, Lunar Prospector, Mariner 2

Why did you change the BodyFrame of these spacecraft? The previous versions were coded so that their high-gain antennas are always pointed at Earth, thereby simulating communications. Now they're fully pointed to the Sun instead. I noticed you also did this on the Martian orbiters on this post (on a side note, for now Mars Odyssey does indeed look better if it's pointed fully at the Sun)

SpaceExplorer2008 commented 2 years ago

@DaveBowman2001 There's a reason for this: Solar panels at a bad angle. I'll take three examples: Juno, Lucy and Stardust. When gravitational assists by the Earth occur, weeks before closest approach the solar panels are on opposite sides of the sun. Sometimes in the inner Solar System, for spacecraft that didn't have gravitational assists, it still gets bad angles. For spacecraft using RTGs (Pioneer 10/11), Voyager 1/2, New Horizons, Cassini, Galileo or Ulysses the antenna pointed at Earth is an excellent option, as they do not use solar energy.

DaveBowman2001 commented 2 years ago

@SpaceExplorer2008, solar panels do not necessarily point directly to the Sun even in real life, as the solar radiation is intense enough (in the case of Juno, the radiation around Jupiter) to significantly degrade the panels' capability to gain power if it were directly pointed towards it. Plus, the phenomena you described is just one of the limitations of Celestia, but it's better if their HGAs are always pointed towards Earth like their counterparts in real life for reasons I've stated in the previous post

SpaceExplorer2008 commented 2 years ago

Still, I think the Juno looks a lot better with the solar panels permanently pointed at the Sun. I'll at least update Mariner 2 to the version you provided.

Title: Vostok 1 Description: Vostok 1 was the first spaceflight of the Vostok programme and the first human orbital spaceflight in history. The Vostok 3KA space capsule was launched from Baikonur Cosmodrome on April 12, 1961, with soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin aboard, making him the first human to reach orbital velocity around the Earth and to complete a full orbit around the Earth. This spaceflight lasted 1 hour and 48 minutes.

NOTE: The model is a little heavy and therefore may cause some minor crashes.

Title: Vanguard 1 Description: Vanguard 1 is an American satellite that was the fourth artificial Earth-orbiting satellite to be successfully launched (following Sputnik 1, Sputnik 2, and Explorer 1); it was launched March 17, 1958. Vanguard 1 was the first satellite to have solar electric power. Although communications with the satellite were lost in 1964, it remains the oldest human-made object still in orbit, together with the upper stage of its launch vehicle.
