Submit your add-ons in this issue, thanks for your contribution! Submission template:

**Title:**
**Description:** (a short description to be shown on the addon download window)
**Proposed category:** (pick one of the existing categories (https://celestia.mobi/resources/), or suggest a new one)
**Demo Object Name:** (optional, the name of the main object used for Go to command)
**Author(s):**
**Release date:** (The date this add-on is released. If left empty, will be the date the add-on is uploaded here)
**Link to download:** (Please use zip to package the add-on, it should contain a file called description.json)
**Image:** (optional, no UI control element, HUD display, label. Avoid using "tall" pictures (height > width))
**Thumbnail:** (optional, by default will be the downscaled version of Image if present, so unless you want something different to show as a thumbnail, leave it empty)
**Additional metadata:** (optional, this can be anything that web supports. Link, image, audio, video, text, attributed text, cel URL, cel/celx scripts, embedded stuff (for example a YouTube video)...)

For updates to existing add-ons, please attach the id to the add-on and only include updated fields from the template. For removal of add-ons, please attach the id too.

The id is part of the link to the add-on: For example, this addon below has an id of A4577B17-4C60-0C1E-CAB5-92A604FF0EC3 https://celestia.mobi/resources/item?item=A4577B17-4C60-0C1E-CAB5-92A604FF0EC3

Check before uploading an add-on

Your add-on will be running on Android/iOS/macOS/Windows, to enable maximum compatibility, please ensure that

  1. files names referenced in models, ssc, dsc files, etc are exactly the same as the actual file names (some file systems are case sensitive. For example if in your .ssc there is Mesh "Progress.cmod", then the file name should be exactly Progress.cmod not progress.cmod).
  2. Textures should have width/height of power of 2 (for example: 1024 512, a texture of 1000 500 will not work on many mobile devices).
  3. If your add-on requires specific Celestia versions, please mention in the description. Please also ensure that your add-on should not crash running on other versions.
  4. If you are updating an existing add-on, note that existing users will not see an update button, so it might be a good idea to include version history in the description.
  5. Please try to use smaller files for image/thumbnail/other metadata. For example, use JPG if alpha value is not needed.

Example:

Nah. I think it isn't really necessary to add COSPAR/SATCAT IDs for spacecrafts. Their common names and, (in case of acronyms), long names are enough for them to be identified within Celestia

SpaceExplorer2008 commented 2 years ago

I think it's interesting to include at least COSPAR, they're like extra information for spacecraft. Also, alternative names for spacecrafts: Example: Ulysses - Odysseus. I don't see any problems with these additions.

@levinli303 It's just the first addon image that needs to be updated. The remaining four must remain.

@DaveBowman2001 Could you add the Apollo program to Celestia Mobile? I believe it is quite expected by Celestia users.

No, not yet sorry. There's still many features there that are needed to change so that it's fully compatible with Mobile, in addition to some models that aren't working in other computers (which were reported many times by Sirius_Alpha and gironde back on the Forum).

That being said, that is currently being worked at along with a mobile version for the Soviet Space Program

levinli303 commented 2 years ago

we should try to provide a Demo Object Name in most cases. I've seen quite a few confused comment about the fact that they are only seeing an Uninstall button (should be a result of no Demo Object, thus no Go button).

DaveBowman2001 commented 2 years ago

Oh, those were addons that has too many objects included, which became difficult to decide which object it should visit after installing/restarting. Will take a look on which addon that only has a single main/parent object without a Demo Object defined (especially for Exoplanet addons)

Title: Salyut 1 Description: Salyut 1 is the first space station in the history of space exploration. After the USSR lost the Moon Race, they gradually shifted their focus into long-term human habitation of LEO. The station was launched in 1971-Apr-19 and was to receive the crew of Soyuz 10 just three days later, but a docking failure aborted this mission. The first humans to board a space station was the crew of Soyuz 11, who stayed aboard for 23 days. However, the Soyuz 11 crew were killed by asphyxiation during their return trip to Earth. The redesign phase of Soyuz took longer than expected, and Salyut 1 was later deorbited on 1971-Oct-11

(NOTE: This addon includes some week-long Soyuz test flights that didn't visit any space station from 1972-1976)

@levinli303 In the SSC, STC or DSC file it already has the corresponding object name. I noticed in the comments that there are a lot of people confused about some things like: Why the addon is not working. That of course, it is necessary to restart Celestia again. A small warning about this is even provided in each addon.

the point of providing add-ons inside the app is to avoid the hassle of understanding from .ssc, .stc, .dsc files for amateur users. so we need to have Demo Object

DaveBowman2001 commented 2 years ago

That's fair enough.

I've added demo object for Powehi, should be effective soon. This add-on happens to be the most popular add-on based on clicks.

SevenSpheres commented 2 years ago

The description for 59 Virginis b claims it was discovered using the Kepler space telescope. This is not the case. If the discovery facility is relevant enough to be mentioned in the short description for some reason, it's the Subaru Telescope.

This error may have originated from the name of the category "Kepler Era" suggesting that Kepler was used to discover all exoplanets in those years? If so, other exoplanet addons may have similarly erroneous descriptions.

SpaceExplorer2008 commented 2 years ago

Yes, it was discovered on Subaru, but it was with data collected by Kepler (according to Wikipedia)

The planets of Proxima Centauri and the planets of TRAPPIST-1 were not discovered by Kepler, and are in the Kepler Era category. I would also suggest to @levinli303 to make it possible to put 100+ addons in each category and get together all exoplanets and spacecrafts addons. That way it wouldn't become so confusing.

SevenSpheres commented 2 years ago

Yes, it was discovered on Subaru, but it was with data collected by Kepler (according to Wikipedia)

This appears to be a result of vandalism in 2020. The "discovered by" entry in the infobox was changed from "Kuzuhara et al." to "Britney Spears" by a vandal, and then was changed in good faith but incorrectly to "NASA's Kepler space telescope". This is why you shouldn't use Wikipedia as a source.

SpaceExplorer2008 commented 2 years ago

Saw it now on NASA Exoplanets Exploration, and it was actually discovered on Subaru. From now on, we are going to avoid Wikipedia as a source as much as possible and find much more reliable sources, such as NASA.

I could put this addon in the Early Years category, 1988 - 2008, but this exoplanet was discovered in 2013, so it really became a problem.

SevenSpheres commented 2 years ago

Of course it shouldn't be put in the wrong discovery year category, I was just guessing why the mistake may have been made.

There's a request for a Hoag's Object addon in the celestia.mobi comments. The existing addon uses a custom galaxy template, which has to be placed in the main "models" folder rather than in "extras". Is there a way to get this kind of addon on celestia.mobi?

DaveBowman2001 commented 2 years ago

There's a request for a Hoag's Object addon in the celestia.mobi comments....Is there a way to get this kind of addon on celestia.mobi?

By default, the main "models" folder isn't accessible (unless you edit the file directory to elsewhere), so porting a custom galaxy model for Hoag's Object would be difficult to pull off. Probably best if its custom model (along with Cartwheel's) is included in stock installations OR a new dedicated CMOD model is created

Proposal to move "Salyut 1" (9D1CDFBD-A9B7-68BB-855F-6C5B46F63D03) into the "Spacecraft (1951 ~ 2000)" category, as it only orbited Earth in 1971

DaveBowman2001 commented 2 years ago

@levinli303 regarding tables in Additional metadata like those in Vostok 1 to 6 and Salyut 1, how do you place them whenever publishing addons on mobi? This is so that I wouldn't rely on sending screenshots of them

levinli303 commented 2 years ago

@DaveBowman2001 , you can probably write tables in GitHub issue and then have it translated into HTML somehow.

HTML code for the Salyut 1. I have to insert
