Submit your add-ons in this issue, thanks for your contribution! Submission template:

**Title:**
**Description:** (a short description to be shown on the addon download window)
**Proposed category:** (pick one of the existing categories (https://celestia.mobi/resources/), or suggest a new one)
**Demo Object Name:** (optional, the name of the main object used for Go to command)
**Author(s):**
**Release date:** (The date this add-on is released. If left empty, will be the date the add-on is uploaded here)
**Link to download:** (Please use zip to package the add-on, it should contain a file called description.json)
**Image:** (optional, no UI control element, HUD display, label. Avoid using "tall" pictures (height > width))
**Thumbnail:** (optional, by default will be the downscaled version of Image if present, so unless you want something different to show as a thumbnail, leave it empty)
**Additional metadata:** (optional, this can be anything that web supports. Link, image, audio, video, text, attributed text, cel URL, cel/celx scripts, embedded stuff (for example a YouTube video)...)

For updates to existing add-ons, please attach the id to the add-on and only include updated fields from the template. For removal of add-ons, please attach the id too.

The id is part of the link to the add-on: For example, this addon below has an id of A4577B17-4C60-0C1E-CAB5-92A604FF0EC3 https://celestia.mobi/resources/item?item=A4577B17-4C60-0C1E-CAB5-92A604FF0EC3

Check before uploading an add-on

Your add-on will be running on Android/iOS/macOS/Windows, to enable maximum compatibility, please ensure that:

  1. files names referenced in models, ssc, dsc files, etc are exactly the same as the actual file names (some file systems are case sensitive. For example if in your .ssc there is Mesh "Progress.cmod", then the file name should be exactly Progress.cmod not progress.cmod).
  2. Textures should have width/height of power of 2 (for example: 1024 512, a texture of 1000 500 will not work on many mobile devices).
  3. If your add-on requires specific Celestia versions, please mention in the description. Please also ensure that your add-on should not crash running on other versions.
  4. If you are updating an existing add-on, note that existing users will not see an update button, so it might be a good idea to include version history in the description.
  5. Please try to use smaller files for image/thumbnail/other metadata. For example, use JPG if alpha value is not needed.

Exoplanets (Kepler Era, 2009 ~ 2017): 86 addons

We are getting close to the limit of addons in the Exoplanets (Kepler Era) category. How will we solve this problem?

@levinli303 Would it be possible to expand to a maximum of 200 addons in each category?

DaveBowman2001 commented 2 years ago

@levinli303 Would it be possible to expand to a maximum of 200 addons in each category?

The limit was removed weeks ago iirc

SpaceExplorer2008 commented 2 years ago

@DaveBowman2001 That's nice. Do you still want to keep exoplanets separated by categories or merge them all into one again? If it's the latter, also join the spacecrafts.

DaveBowman2001 commented 2 years ago

I think we shall leave the separate categories now so that we could indirectly teach people that, in the case of exoplanets, these are the times when the star systems' first spotted planets were discovered.

Also since there is a Spacecraft (Conceptual) category...I'd like to fill it with design concepts that never actually flew to space but were meticulously planned throughout history, and I don't want to mix it with actual flown hardware

Title: Kepler-453 Description: Kepler-453 is a binary star system comprising of a Sun-like star and a red dwarf about 1,463.1 light-years away in the constellation Lyra. levinli303 commented 2 years ago

while the limit of 100 is removed, we should still not make very large categories, let's keep it under 200 (5 pages).

  1. older version (1.5.4 and early) still requests a full list of category add-ons, it will become slow due to the amount of data returned
  2. I might introduce subcategories, or nested categories in the future.

Title: HD 40307 Description: HD 40307, also known as Gliese 2046, is a K-type main-sequence star about 42.2 light-years away in the constellation Pictor. It has four confirmed exoplanets discovered, in addition to two unconfirmed, one of which was a former candidate planet for potential habitability Proposed category: Exoplanets (Early Years, 1988 ~ 2008) Demo Object Name: HD 40307 Author(s): AVBursch Release date: 2008-Sept-9 Link to download: HD 40307.zip Image: Untitled

A possible solution would be to rejoin all spacecrafts that reached space, and leave conceptual spacecrafts in a separate category. What do you think?

Title: Fifth Gigant Description: Fifth Gigant is a hypothetical icy giant planet that may have existed between the orbits of Saturn and Uranus. Therefore, at a time of unstable orbits of the giant planets, a possible encounter with Jupiter could have ejected the Fifth Giant out of the Solar System. Title: Planet V Description: Planet V is a hypothetical planet that orbited the Sun just beyond the orbit of Mars. Therefore, gravitational perturbations would have sent Planet V into the asteroid belt. The same would have thrown asteroids in the direction of the orbit of the inner planets. This process would have occurred until possibly Planet V fell into the Sun. Title: Phaeton Description: Phaeton is a disproved planet believed to exist between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. The destruction of Phaeton supposedly created the asteroid belt, including the dwarf planet Ceres. Today Phaeton's theory is disproved. It is believed that main-belt asteroids never formed a planet and are just remnants left over from the protoplanetary disk. Title: Theia Description: Theia is a hypothetical planet the size of Mars that may have collided with Earth 4.5 billion years ago, giving rise to the Moon. It is estimated that before impact with Earth, Theia was at the L4 or L5 point of Earth's orbit, so due to Earth's continued growth, Theia was pushed out of L4 or L5. Possible gravitational perturbations from Venus may have sent Theia on a collision course with Earth. Title: LCROSS Description: The Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite (LCROSS) is a NASA space mission with the objective of determining the nature of hydrogen detected in the polar regions of the Moon and also looking for the presence of water in the form of ice. LCROSS was launched together with the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter on June 18, 2009. LCROSS consisted of a probe and the Centaur stage. On October 9, 2009, Centaur split from LCROSS and collided with the Moon at Cabeus Crater, at the lunar south pole. The Centaur impact generated a plume that was studied by the LCROSS spacecraft before it also impacted the Moon. The mission was successful in confirming the existence of water ice in Cabeus crater. Title: Mars Polar Lander Description: Mars Polar Lander was a robotic spacecraft intended to study the soil and climate of Planum Australe, near the south pole of Mars. Its launch took place on January 3, 1999 and spacecraft arrived on Mars on December 3, 1999. Therefore, after the descent phase, communication with spacecraft was lost. It is believed that the premature termination of the engine firing before the spacecraft touched the Martian surface, caused it to collide with the surface at high speed and consequently, was destroyed by impact.

NOTE: This addon adds the Mars Polar Lander intact to the surface of Mars, but in reality it was destroyed by the impact.
