For Updates to Existing Add-ons

For updates to existing add-ons, please attach the id to the add-on and only include updated fields from the template. For removal of add-ons, please attach the id too.

The id is part of the link to the add-on: For example, this addon below has an id of A4577B17-4C60-0C1E-CAB5-92A604FF0EC3 https://celestia.mobi/resources/item?item=A4577B17-4C60-0C1E-CAB5-92A604FF0EC3

Check Before Uploading an Add-on

Your add-on will be running on Android/iOS/macOS/Windows, to enable maximum compatibility, please ensure that:

  1. File names referenced in models, ssc, dsc files, etc. are exactly the same as the actual file names (some file systems are case sensitive. For example if in your .ssc there is Mesh "Progress.cmod", then the file name should be exactly Progress.cmod not progress.cmod).
  2. Textures should have width/height of power of 2 (for example: 1024 512, a texture of 1000 500 will not work on many mobile devices).
  3. If your add-on requires specific Celestia versions, please mention in the description. Please also ensure that your add-on should not crash running on other versions.
  4. If you are updating an existing add-on, note that existing users will not see an update button, so it might be a good idea to include version history in the description.
  5. Please try to use smaller files for image/thumbnail/other metadata. For example, use JPG if alpha value is not needed.

Example:

Title: Kepler-1649 Description: The Kepler-1649 planetary system, which is a red dwarf star orbited by a Venus-analogue and an Earth-analogue. Alternate surfaces for planet c are included. Proposed category: Exoplanets Demo Object Name: Kepler-1649/c Author(s): SevenSpheres Release date: 2020-07-16 Link to download: Kepler-1649.zip Image: Untitled

For New Categories

If a New Addon does not fit into any existing category, you can propose a new one by following the format below:

**Short Name**: (used when context about parent category is given somewhere)
**Full Name**:
**Description**:
**Parent**: (N/A if it is a root category)
**Children**: (N/A if it is a leaf category, you might want to change children's short names to be concise)
**Image**: (must be about 3000 * 1000 pixels in size in order for the whole image to fit)

Example: For Parent Category Full Name: Exoplanets Description: Artistic Impressions of real exoplanets arranged by confirmation status and discovery years Children: Early Years, Kepler Era, TESS Era, Unconfirmed Image: image

Example: For Children Category Short Name: Unconfirmed Full Name: Exoplanets: Unconfirmed Description: These addons depict the star systems whose planets were spotted but is yet to be confirmed by follow-up observations Parent: Exoplanets Image: image

Title: 1950 DA Description: 1950 DA is a near-Earth asteroid. It was discovered on February 23, 1950 by Carl A. Wirtanen. A few days after its discovery it was lost, but found again in December 2000. 1950 DA is 1.1 km in diameter. It once had the highest known probability of impacting Earth, but the estimated risk has been updated several times. It is estimated that in the year 2880 the chance of impact on Earth will be 1 in 8,300. @levinli303 The post ended up going twice by accident. As GitHub is currently quite problematic, it is not possible to delete. Upload only one of the posts

levinli303 commented 2 years ago

@SpaceExplorer2008 you should probably use a different browser. Github is working well for me.

I've added a new field "Can Be Opened In Celestia" which controls whether the "Open in Celestia" link shows up or not. Default to yes so usually you don't need to use it. An exception is https://celestia.mobi/privacy where it makes no sense for this article to be opened in Celestia.

SpaceExplorer2008 commented 2 years ago

Most of the time I upload addons through my smartphone for practical reasons, since it is not always possible to be with the computer. I'll try to find another browser later.

Are these space debris from this addon real or fictional? If they are fictional, the category must be "Fictional".

@DaveBowman2001 The STS-41-C quest does not yet appear in Celestia. I am using the latest version of Space Shuttle and SolarMax.

Try reinstalling both. STS-41-C is working fine on my phone (except for the missing support equipment, I will add this later)

EDIT: Turns out the support equipment files are already included in SolarMax's package all along, but not works because of the shuttle's mobi ID (1D) is placed after SMM (1C, which is necessary because Celestia likes to have the files alphabetically arranged for it to be read successfully). Will move them onto the Space Shuttle package where it belongs later today image

Okay then, i will try this.

Updated (2 Pallas) https://celestia.mobi/resources/item?item=0483CF05-AE7D-BC53-74E4-F4A0E38FD09D Updated description. ID: 0483CF05-AE7D-BC53-74E4-F4A0E38FD09D

Description: 2 Pallas is a large B-type asteroid. It was discovered by Heinrich Wilhelm Matthias Olbers in March 1802. It is the third largest asteroid in the Solar System, and constitutes 7% of the total mass of the asteroid belt. It is about 515 km in diameter and is a remnant of a protoplanet in a highly inclined orbit in the asteroid belt. In 2016, it was proposed to send the Dawn spacecraft to perform a flyby of Pallas, but this proposal was rejected in favor of continuing the observations of Ceres.

NOTE: This addon updates and modifies the existing version of asteroid Pallas in Celestia.

Title: 3200 Phaethon Description: 3200 Phaethon (1983 TB) is an active F-type asteroid. Phaethon was the first asteroid to be discovered using images from a spacecraft. Simon F. Green and John K. Davies discovered the asteroid on October 11, 1983, while researching data from the IRAS space telescope. It is the parent body of the Geminids meteor shower. Phaethon is the target of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) DESTINY+ mission, with a planned launch in 2024 and a flyby of Phaethon in 2028. Aren't you going to disable the other XYZVs by default? These would take longer to load as I have previously written weeks ago

SpaceExplorer2008 commented 2 years ago

Oops, sorry, I sent it wrong. Tomorrow I will upload the right one. @levinli303 don't upload these quoted updates yet

DaveBowman2001 commented 2 years ago

When they are uploaded I will make a Tutorial on how to activate the other XYZVs

@DaveBowman2001 Now I sent the correct ones. Note that I zip the entire addon of the full xyzv trajectories, to make it more practical and less complicated for a Celestia user. It will only be necessary to delete the SSC, data, models and textures of the main addon and only unzip the version with complete trajectories. It gets better, because you won't have to keep moving folders and files. Later, when I have more time, I will also do this with the Mars Odyssey, MRO and ExoMars TGO. The initial priority was only VEX, MEX and MAVEN.

And by any chance, could you provide a version with full xyzv trajectories for Akatsuki, Mangalyaan and Al-Amal?

Ok, but you have to carefully check the folders when you pack them to zip files (for instance, your current MAVEN.zip has 3 subfolders all named MAVEN before accessing the main content...i.e. MAVEN/MAVEN/MAVEN/content). The replacement installation has a very high chance that it might introduce a duplicate spacecraft if installed in the wrong subfolder once the Tutorial is setup

And by any chance, could you provide a version with full xyzv trajectories for Akatsuki, Mangalyaan and Al-Amal?

Since their orbital parameters haven't really changed significantly since settling down to their planned science orbits, then I'm sorry but no, they won't have full XYZV trajectories. It simply isn't necessary to render them

Btw you could delete the other post now to help lev which of the posts to upload on mobi

SpaceExplorer2008 commented 2 years ago

I tested it, it doesn't create duplicates, as long as all the folders of the main version of the addon (data, models, textures and SSC) are deleted, then just unzip the version with complete paths. Practical and simple. I've always preferred full trajectories for accuracy, as SSC-based orbits become quite imprecise, even if spacecraft doesn't change its orbit that much. As I said before, a natural change occurs, due to the curvature of space-time generated by the planet.

GitHub is still buggy, can't delete old post.

DaveBowman2001 commented 2 years ago

I meant there are unnecessary subfolders inside the current zips like MAVEN -> MAVEN -> MAVEN -> (content)

SpaceExplorer2008 commented 2 years ago

Good, but that's not a problem. You can put an addon inside as many folders as you want and there will be no problems.

That IS a problem. Operating systems have limits in file paths. You should always keep the hierarchy of files shallow.
