Submit your add-ons in this issue, thanks for your contribution! Submission template:

**Title:**
**ID:** (optional, use only to determine which addon in mobi to update)
**ID Requirement:** (optional, ID decides the order of loading, might need special requirement if an add-on has dependencies)
**Description (Legacy)**: (plain text description of the add-on)
**Description**: (optional, rich content description of the add-on which includes additional images, videos, tables etc. which also replaces the old Additional metadata format. If it is plain text, put it in Description (Legacy) and leave this empty)
**Proposed category:** (pick one of the existing categories (https://celestia.mobi/resources/categories), or suggest a new one)
**Demo Object Name:** (optional, the name of the main object used for Go to command)
**Author(s):** (optional)
**Release date:** (optional, The date this original add-on is released. If left empty, will be the date the add-on is uploaded here)

For Updates to Existing Add-ons

For updates to existing add-ons, please attach the id to the add-on and only include updated fields from the template. For removal of add-ons, please attach the id too.

The id is part of the link to the add-on: For example, this addon below has an id of A4577B17-4C60-0C1E-CAB5-92A604FF0EC3 https://celestia.mobi/resources/item?item=A4577B17-4C60-0C1E-CAB5-92A604FF0EC3

Check Before Uploading an Add-on

Your add-on will be running on Android/iOS/macOS/Windows, to enable maximum compatibility, please ensure that:

  1. File names referenced in models, ssc, dsc files, etc. are exactly the same as the actual file names (some file systems are case sensitive. For example if in your .ssc there is Mesh "Progress.cmod", then the file name should be exactly Progress.cmod not progress.cmod).
  2. Textures should have width/height of power of 2 (for example: 1024 512, a texture of 1000 500 will not work on many mobile devices).
  3. If your add-on requires specific Celestia versions, please mention in the description. Please also ensure that your add-on should not crash running on other versions.
  4. If you are updating an existing add-on, note that existing users will not see an update button, so it might be a good idea to include version history in the description.
  5. Please try to use smaller files for image/thumbnail/other metadata. For example, use JPG if alpha value is not needed.
  6. All images need to be in JPEG (you either choose to screenshot in JPEG in Celestia or convert using tools)
  7. The add-on archive should not include system files or hidden files (macOS is notorious for adding hidden system files to archives, avoid using macOS's default archive utility) this issue is found in many add-ons @Anthony-B-Russo10 uploaded
  8. The add-on archive must have a flat folder structure (It should try to have fewer level of folders, do not do things like A/A/A) this issue is found in many add-ons @SpaceExplorer2008 uploaded

Example:

Title: Kepler-1649 Description (Legacy): The Kepler-1649 planetary system, which is a red dwarf star orbited by a Venus-analogue and an Earth-analogue. Alternate surfaces for planet c are included. @DaveBowman2001 Kepler-1410 will be included in the "EarthLike Exoplanets" addon that I will upload later today. So no need to upload separately.

DaveBowman2001 commented 2 years ago

@DaveBowman2001 Kepler-1410 will be included in the "EarthLike Exoplanets" addon that I will upload later today. So no need to upload separately.

I have to upload it separately so I could keep track of Project Sisyphus's progress by having separate mobi links. Plus, most of the planets there are nonexistent, on the SSC files, even on unconfirmed, as was the case on mesoplanets.ssc

In addition, most of the planets on that collection share the same surface textures (especially the hyceanplanets.ssc), which is not preferrable imho

DaveBowman2001 commented 2 years ago

On DrJMOS's Earthlike exoplanets, the texture used (psychroplanet1.png) was originally assigned to Kepler-1505 c, but since the planet is nonexistent on the latest TTEC, I reassigned it to Kepler-1638 b

Title: Kepler-1638 Description (Legacy): Kepler-1505 is a Sun-like star about 5,203 light-years away in the constellation Cygnus. It has a single superterran planet, currently listed (as of 2021) as a potentially habitable world Proposed category: Exoplanets: Kepler Era (2009-2017) Demo Object Name: Kepler-1638 Author(s): DrJMOS Release date: 2022-Mar-3 Link to download: Kepler-1638.zip Image: Untitled

SpaceExplorer2008 commented 2 years ago

So I'm just going to remove those two exoplanets that you uploaded separately.

DaveBowman2001 commented 2 years ago

No, just pick a planet and a texture accompanying it so that all of them have unique textures. If the planet is nonexistent on the current TTEC, refer to the Potentially Habitable Catalog, on where to assign them. Same goes with the Real Giant Hydronians with Fantasy Earthlike Moons collection

I'll assign mesoplanet1.jpg to Kepler-1701 b

SpaceExplorer2008 commented 2 years ago

Well, now I'm thinking of uploading each planet separately from the "EarthLike Exoplanets" addon. It could be better, like I do with periodic comets.

DaveBowman2001 commented 2 years ago

Just make sure the texture you assigned for a planet doesn't get reused on another one I may recommend to pick a system that contains only one planet so that the others wouldn't be left untextured

Title: KOI-4878 ID Requirement: C Description (Legacy): KOI-4878 is a Sun-like star about 1,134 light-years away in the constellation Draco. In 2015, a planetary signature was detected in the star's habitable zone, in addition to having the same stellar distance and size to Earth. If its existence is confirmed, then this planet will become one of the most Earth-like potentially habitable planets ever discovered

Title: Kepler-438 Description (Legacy): Kepler-438 Ab is an exoplanet similar in size to Earth, orbiting the red dwarf Kepler-438 A at a distance of 472.9 light-years from Earth. It was discovered by the Kepler space telescope on January 6, 2015. Kepler-438 Ab orbits within the habitable zone of its parent star, where it could have liquid water on its surface. Therefore, this planet is subject to a powerful radiation activity from its star every 100 days, due to immense solar flares, which would prevent life from developing on the planet. I thought of a spacecraft subcategory suggestion: What if the subcategories were, for example: "Mars Missions", "Outer Solar System Missions", "Space Telescopes", "Space Stations" and so on? So, assuming a Celestia user was looking to install all the space telescopes, it would be easier to find them.

SevenSpheres commented 2 years ago

Yeah, that would probably be better than sorting by year. It's similar to what the Motherlode uses, too.

  • Again, please stop using the ugly red dwarf lighting.

Not sure how to fix this, will temporarily hide this submission of OGLE-390L for now

Which ones? The former or the ones reassigned? I checked even the extrasolar_unconfirmed.ssc and there too these planets are missing from the catalog, hence reassigning them to the planets I chose

Will review this one later today or tomorrow on what we have so far. The current subcategories are patterned after the Exoplanets' history-type arrangement

The is Earth is hollow.

SpaceExplorer2008 commented 2 years ago

If you want to continue with this, these are the names of the subcategories I suggest:

Anything can suggest a change. The subcategory where a given spacecraft should go will be the one that indicates its main target. For example, Cassini, which performed gravitational assists from Venus and Earth, but its target was Saturn. That is, it will be placed in the "Outer Solar System Missions" category. If you don't have time to create these subcategories, I can create them, I have plenty of time.

This kind of subcategory would also help to avoid too large amounts of addons in them. For example, Spacecraft (1951-2000) and (2001-2020) have already passed the 3rd page.

SpaceExplorer2008 commented 2 years ago

@Jupitersonne Please, this should not be discussed here.

ghost commented 2 years ago

How can I write to you personally?

SpaceExplorer2008 commented 2 years ago

Enough, this should not be discussed here. Here is a place to submit addons. Are you by any chance Peter592?

DaveBowman2001 commented 2 years ago

If you want to continue with this, these are the names of the subcategories I suggest:

  • Sun Missions
  • Mercury Missions
  • Venus Missions
  • Earth Missions (for scientific satellites, e.g. Aqua, Aura, TRMM, etc.)
  • Other Earth satellites (for GPS, commercial, internet type satellites)
  • Moon Missions or Lunar Missions
  • Mars Missions
  • Outer Solar System Missions
  • Dwarf Planets/Asteroids/Comets Missions or Minor Bodies Missions
  • Space Telescopes
  • Space Stations
  • Crewed Missions

I will review everything that is currently uploaded. My concern was what to do with the Conceptual subcategory. It isn't actually fictional nor its contents be moved anywhere else. In addition, because there are literally few missions dedicated to Mercury, I am thinking if that and Venus are merged to each other (since all Mercury missions so far had passed by Venus before reaching Mercury itself).

Also, the types of Earth Missions are so varied that putting them all in "Other Earth missions" is still too many.

@DaveBowman2001 It might be good, yes, a subcategory called "Mercury/Venus Missions". All missions dedicated to Mercury passed through Venus: Mariner 10, MESSENGER and BepiColombo. I think we can put them together.

Title: Darwin IV Description (Legacy): This addon adds Darwin IV, the fictional planet from Wayne Barlowe's book Expedition and the TV docufiction Alien Planet. I've tried to keep it as accurate to the book as possible, but some data had to be extrapolated or guessed, and I've placed the system at 10 times its stated distance of 6.5 light-years so it doesn't mess up Earth's night sky.

Note that this addon may cause naming conflicts if you have another addon with an object named Darwin, such as the Orion's Arm planet. Update to Gliese 581: Description (Legacy): Gliese 581 is an M-type red dwarf star 20.549 light-years away from Earth in the constellation Libra. It has had a complicated history, with up to 6 planets being proposed at one point, some of them described as potentially habitable. More recently, several studies have shown that the signals corresponding to the three outer planets are artifacts of stellar activity, and the current consensus is that the system has only three planets.

The three disproven planets in this system, with custom textures from an older addon, can be downloaded from the "Hypothetical & Disproven" category. Update to the "Galileo" addon. Also a proposal to replace the entire gallery with these images below:

ID: EF2551AE-DAE4-A3CA-8677-D9E978EDB06E Description (Legacy): Galileo was a NASA orbiter/atmospheric probe that studied the planet Jupiter and its moons, as well as the asteroids 951 Gaspra and 243 Ida. It was delivered into Earth orbit on 1989-Oct-18 by Space Shuttle Atlantis (STS-34). Galileo arrived at Jupiter on 1995-Dec-7, after gravitational assist flybys of Venus and Earth, and became the first spacecraft to orbit an outer planet. The mission lasted until 2003-Sept-21

NOTE: Requires the "Space Shuttle" addon in order for this addon to fully work.

@SpaceExplorer2008 there were a few small issues with the image i used for HAT-P-11, and i suggest that this one should be used instead HAT-P-11_toscale

SpaceExplorer2008 commented 2 years ago

@TheLostProbe Okay, when Levin uploads I will update the image.

SpaceExplorer2008 commented 2 years ago

@DaveBowman2001 The Galileo addon is generating duplicates with the original Galileo version of Celestia. I couldn't solve it.

DaveBowman2001 commented 2 years ago

Ok lemme take a look at it for a sec

Hmm...that's odd, the problem has still persisted. Will temporarily hide the post until this problem was resolved

SpaceExplorer2008 commented 2 years ago

I found that in SSC, we can't put "Sol/Jupiter/Galileo", because the original version of Celestia is "Sol/Galileo". Celestia's version is "persistent" so to speak. Even with the addon, there are still remnants of Celestia's original Galileo. That's why a duplicate was created. The addon's SSC needs to be "Sol/Galileo". And with the Galileo Probe, we know it must be "Sol/Galileo/Galileo Probe".

DaveBowman2001 commented 2 years ago

I know...I changed it back to Sol/Galileo but the duplicate is still there when I "fixed" it. Sol/Jupiter/Galileo is meant to be on my personal use only until I create a pull request changing its reference directly on the source code. I forgot to modify it before uploading publicly

As of now, the Galileo Probe is OK, but the orbiter isn't

EDIT: OK I tested everything now for the third time in mobile and all duplicates are erased

SpaceExplorer2008 commented 2 years ago

I think I managed to solve Galileo Orbiter, have a look here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CD103P5GyIKKwN-qjmqppnfhXXqwaq3L/view?usp=drivesdk
