For Updates to Existing Add-ons

For updates to existing add-ons, please attach the id to the add-on and only include updated fields from the template. For removal of add-ons, please attach the id too.

The id is part of the link to the add-on: For example, this addon below has an id of A4577B17-4C60-0C1E-CAB5-92A604FF0EC3 https://celestia.mobi/resources/item?item=A4577B17-4C60-0C1E-CAB5-92A604FF0EC3

Check Before Uploading an Add-on

Your add-on will be running on Android/iOS/macOS/Windows, to enable maximum compatibility, please ensure that:

  1. File names referenced in models, ssc, dsc files, etc. are exactly the same as the actual file names (some file systems are case sensitive. For example if in your .ssc there is Mesh "Progress.cmod", then the file name should be exactly Progress.cmod not progress.cmod).
  2. Textures should have width/height of power of 2 (for example: 1024 512, a texture of 1000 500 will not work on many mobile devices).
  3. If your add-on requires specific Celestia versions, please mention in the description. Please also ensure that your add-on should not crash running on other versions.
  4. If you are updating an existing add-on, note that existing users will not see an update button, so it might be a good idea to include version history in the description.
  5. Please try to use smaller files for image/thumbnail/other metadata. For example, use JPG if alpha value is not needed.
  6. All images need to be in JPEG (you either choose to screenshot in JPEG in Celestia or convert using tools)
  7. The add-on archive should not include system files or hidden files (macOS is notorious for adding hidden system files to archives, avoid using macOS's default archive utility) this issue is found in many add-ons @Anthony-B-Russo10 uploaded
  8. The add-on archive must have a flat folder structure (It should try to have fewer level of folders, do not do things like A/A/A) this issue is found in many add-ons @SpaceExplorer2008 uploaded

Example:

Title: Briar Patch Description (Plain Text): The planet Ba'ku is an M-class planet located in the Briar Patch. It has been the location of a Ba'ku colony since the mid-21st century, and is characterized by a unique effect caused by the planet's rings that cause the planet's inhabitants not to age.

Ba'ku is a ringed planet, the rings themselves being saturated with metaphasic radiation. The planet is home to a Ba'ku settlement, established in 2066 by a group of approximately 600 of the Ba'ku, fleeing their homeworld for fear of their race's self-destruction. The planet's radiation allowed the inhabitants to live extended life spans, In the late 23rd century, a group of the Ba'ku, disillusioned with the settlement's ways, left the planet, and became the Son'a.

In 2375, an attempt by the Son'a led by Ahdar Ru'afo, and assisted by Starfleet officers under Matthew Dougherty to strip the planet of its metaphasic particles and to forcefully relocate the Ba'ku to another planet, was stopped by the actions of Jean-Luc Picard and the crew of the USS Enterprise-E.

Title: Gamma 7A System Description (Plain Text): This year, while the system was investigated by the USS Intrepid, both the system and the Intrepid were attacked by the space amoeba and all life was wiped out. As contact with the system therefore ceased, nearby Starbase 6 ordered the USS Enterprise to investigate; the ship was finally able to destroy the amoeba. (TOS: "The Immunity Syndrome")

The USS Intrepid (NCC-1631) was a Federation Constitution-class starship crewed almost entirely by Vulcans. (TOS: "The Immunity Syndrome")

In 2267, the Intrepid was undergoing repairs in maintenance section 18 at Starbase 11. The base commander, Commodore Stone, rescheduled the Intrepid's repairs, upon giving the USS Enterprise "Priority 1" status on stardate 2947.3, after being damaged in an ion storm. (TOS: "Court Martial")

In 2268, the Intrepid worked in conjunction with Starbase 6, in conducting a mission to investigate the loss of contact with solar system Gamma 7A in Sector 39J. While traversing that sector of space, the Intrepid encountered an unknown dark zone which was, unbeknownst at the time, slowly killing the ship's crew. On stardate 4307.1, Starbase 6 lost contact with the Intrepid. A rescue priority was issued to the Enterprise to investigate the loss of the Intrepid in an unknown dark zone. En route, Commander Spock telepathically sensed the crew of 400 Vulcans die. On stardate 4309.2, the Enterprise established that the thing which destroyed the Intrepid and the Gamma 7A system was an incredibly huge but simple cellular being whose energies are totally destructive to all known life. The crew of the Enterprise destroyed the form, which was determined to be nourishing itself for reproduction. (TOS: "The Immunity Syndrome")

The space amoeba was a vast, space-dwelling being, single-celled organism of unknown origin, surrounded by a field of negative energy. The USS Enterprise encountered the space amoeba in 2268 while en route to Starbase 6, after diverting to investigate the destruction of an inhabited planet in the Gamma 7A system and the all-Vulcan starship USS Intrepid. The Enterprise crew discovered that the negative energy field was toxic to humanoid life. They also found that the organism would soon reproduce by cell division. In view of the danger posed by the organism and its multiplication across the galaxy, the Enterprise crew used an antimatter charge to destroy it. (TOS: "The Immunity Syndrome")

Also, if possible, upload the Double Asteroid Redirect Test update made by @DaveBowman2001, so that it does not conflict with the 65803 Didymos addon.

Announcing a better method for sending comets that I do, it will now be a catalog divided into parts. For example, 2P Encke to 8P Tuttle. It will not include comets visited by spacecraft, obviously, such as 9P/Tempel and 19P/Borrelly. It will no longer be necessary to install one comet at a time as before.

Sounds like a good idea. Also if you create an asteroid catalog, could you leave out objects that also have custom textures of their own and are impactors?

Also applies to the ISON and Siding Spring comet addons

SpaceExplorer2008 commented 1 year ago

Yes, the more interesting non-periodic comets like ISON itself and Siding Spring as well as NEOWISE in 2020 and Leonard in 2021 would continue in separate addons, but at the moment I'm using the idea only on periodic comets, after all I want to bring the more than 400 periodic comets for the mobi site. But obviously that takes time.

SpaceExplorer2008 commented 1 year ago

Tomorrow maybe, I'll send another part of the periodic comets, 21P to 25D. After 26P/Grigg-Skjellerup, which you will still separate from the Giotto addon and send in a separate addon, there will be a new part, which will be between 27P to 66P, before reaching 67P/Churymov-Gerasimenko.

A single Saturn-sized planet is found orbiting within the star's habitable zone, where in 2013 is hypothesized to possibly harbor a habitable moon.

This implies there's actually evidence of an exomoon, it should be rephrased.

DaveBowman2001 commented 1 year ago

Removed the section where I stated in the description there's a hypothetical Earth-like exomoon around Kepler-86 b
