I think if prioritize https://github.com/celestiaorg/celestia-core/issues/1182, then there is no need to backport to v0.34.x-celestia

Update: though I don't see any issue with backporting for now until we get to #1182

I saw some Slack discussion about this PR. I'm assuming the conclusion is to mark this PR as non-breaking in celestia-core because the PR title doesn't contain a !.

Based on the slack discussions, we agreed to consider this as a non-breaking change.
