[3,3.5] A few Good Gnomes quest bug

The quest cannot be completed naturally. Gnomes do not react to the Motivate-a-Tron device so no progress is possible. and the NPC Captain Tread Sparknozzle does not exist at the location the quest tells you to go afterward; Steelgrill's Depot (by Kharanos)

I can confirm it's bugged. I think I read somewhere that it's a vanilla bug, not sure where, but basically Catalysm broke it but the quest giver is left in the database or something. I ended up just abandon this quest because I don't want it to clutter my quest log. https://github.com/cmangos/issues/issues/1907 Anyway looks like the cmangos ain't making any progress on it so I won't be holding my breath.

And I also got crash bug with Gnomeregan's Data Rescue last year, and cmangos team appearantly got it fixed this january, maybe they are still working on it, who knows... https://github.com/cmangos/issues/issues/3314

This a repack of cmangos so I think you may need to report this over there

@lcmiracle-yh Cataclysm is a later expansion. Is the DB a "backport"? That would make a lot more sense...

The quest(s) and NPC were added in patch 3.3.5 WotLK; but removed in 4.0.1 Cata before being re-added (sigh, Blizzard) in 4.0.3a Cata..

You can spawn the NPC manually with GM 2 using .npc add 42489 and you can then turn in your quest. However you cannot complete the quest as the function is broken in the current build celguar uses but if you have to, you can .quest complete 25229 this, however, requires GM 3 for some reason.

This is naturally not ideal, but if you must it's a (gross) workaround.

Also i don't think reporting issues upstream is a great idea. There is no way for us to know what changes celguar made before compiling it and it would potentially waste an enormous amount of time from the cmangos team if this is a celguar repack issue and not a cmangos official issue. One of the requirements to report a cmangos core bug is that the bug can be reproduced on a clean untarnished core; see the previous statement. They released an update 5 hours ago, so some development is still going on over there, but the "repack" has no update, so clearly we need celguar to check in on this issue and not the cmangos team. if he can clear the core as being clean and untarnished then sure, i might be willing to post a crashdump on cmangos' issue tracker - but ideally we should be testing the later updates first (as soon as its made available in the spp launcher!)

Regarding the updates -- you can update your local repack with the update.bat file, which, as I found out last year, had relatively frequent updates. I did not check the logs but I think it either updates the database or the wotlk.zip file, possibly pulling from the cmangos report

The problem with the update.bat file is that it seems to break certain dll file after auto update, however
