New swipe menus interfere with page navigation #698

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Open a PDF document in single page view mode
2. Attempt to turn page by swiping left or right

What is the expected output?

Advance to next or previous page.

What do you see instead?

Menus open if swiping from very edge. Have to be careful to swipe away from
edge to turn pages.

What version of the product are you using?

2.1.2

On what operating system?

Jellybean 4.1.1

What device are you using?

10" tablet

Please provide any additional information below.

A recent change has combined the various top toolbar buttons into one menu on
the right. This combined menu is great, but having this menu open with a swipe
is unnecessary and often interferes with page navigation. Likewise having the
left-side menu open with a swipe is also unnecessary. Since tapping one of the
buttons in the top menu bar opens the menus anyway, it would be nice to be able
to disable the swipe-to-open-menus feature -- either disable it altogether or
make it an option in settings to either turn it on or off.

I cannot speak for the developers but the swiping menu are useful when you
operate in full screen. I too find it it interferes with the browsing and a
possible trade-off could be to associate the menu-swiping with only the top
area of the page?

I have same opinion as original poster. Page navigation is now more difficult
due to swipes opening menu instead of changing page. I also agree with
original poster that a nice solution would be to make the feature optional,
empowering the user, who can decide for him or herself whether to use it, or
not.

i'm suffering from that also, when I zoom in a page and trying to navigate
through, I'm getting annoyed by those side menus.
